The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Are you around? - If I emailed you two photos that came out too dark, can photoshop lighten them? - I don't have photoshop, just paint.

I am now. I'd be glad to do that. I'll be up for a little while yet tonight, and should be around most of the day tomorrow.

I solved it! - But thanks!

I should get photoshop.... Paint is a pretty crude tool for editing photos!

Evening all! Just checking in.

Spent most of the day doing yard work. My arms are still tired.

Then Jr. and I went to CompUSA to look at notebooks. Now I'm wishing I'd bought the Dell two weeks ago when they were running the special. The sales geekette at CompUSA wanted to sell us a top of the line Sony starting at $1,900 and that's before we upgrade to Microsoft Office, add the ViaVoice software he needs and his film editing software. It does come with Fire Wire already installed.

I came home and looked for the Dell that was selling for $749 a few weeks ago with a free upgrade to the CD-RW/ and DVD burner (whatever the real letters are...). But NO, now it's not available...I'm already back up to $1,300...

We are open to suggestions.

Let me send you one of them, if you really don't mind... I had to do a pretty crude job with it, and it maybe could be a better picture with better tools and skilled hands?

The trouble is, many of the pics when she was in the ring, she was too far away from me to be in range of my flash.

We are open to suggestions.

Have you looked on the Dell site for refurbished Latitude notebooks? Latitude is their commercial line, while Inspiron is for home use. You get a better warranty and better design. I have a refurbished Dell Optiflex desktop and recommended another to a client, and both have worked out well.

The refurbished Dell commercial products are listed on the "small business" side of their web site. The inventory changes constantly, and no two systems are exactly alike. You browse through the list, looking at amounts of RAM, extra features, operating system, etc. There are various kinds of incentives going on all the time, too.

The refurbished commercial systems have the same warranty as brand new ones, including one year of on-site support. Notebooks are more fragile than desktops, and this might be something to consider, too.

I wish I knew more about buyin' computers! I didn't pick mine out, my brother did. I sure would recommend Dell after my experience. Excellent machine, and excellent warranty. (she says, while looking at her beautiful new monitor)

Thanks. That may be a better option. But it would still mean we have to add the DVD drive which came as a free upgrade to the other model. We'll keep looking. Maybe next weeks specials will be better.

Can't buy tonite anyway 'cause my idjit credit union screwed up my VISA. Apparently someone hacked into the VISA system, so they canceled all their VISA cards. It still works as a debit card. But this happened on 2/26. Of course they mailed the notice on 2/28 and I should've had a new card by now...but I doesn't.

They're really startin' to piss me off...

SAG awards are on at 8 pm tomorrow night on TNT. Just saw the commercial...

I would guess that we're getting a tape-delay version.

Ok, this is what I got planted...

Two rows edible pod peas
6 leaf lettuce plants
Two rows of radishes
two rows of carrots
70 "1015" onions

The peas have pvc pipe "hooped" over them with jute twine for them to vine up. It all has bunny fencing around it, which I hope will work!

I'm not sure, but I will try. I will probably miss all the Red Carpet stuff, and will check into the chatroom as soon as I get home from all my church stuff tomorrow night.

I just tuned in our local PBS station ("KCKA" Channel 12 for the locals) and there is a two-hour special on JRR Tolkien on! - Half over unfortunately, but on here for another hour!

Check for rebroadcasts if if has already run where you are, and hopefully they will run it again.

Title: "JRR Tolkien: Master/Rings"

Is it the National Geographic one that came with the FotR-EE Collector's Set, or something new?

It is not the National Geographic one, and it is not something new... It is something very old. - Pre movie. It is all about the literature, lots of different 'scholars' describing cultures, language, comparisons to other works like Beowolf, and of course, allegory.

It is fund-drive time here, the actual run-time of the special may be 90 minutes, with 30 minutes worth (at least so far) of pleading for me to call and donate interspersed in it.

The actual title is JRR Tolkien: Master of the Rings
