The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Yeah, you're right. But this fellow ain't stupid, + he's really likable. Needs an education in reality, though, and maybe individual rights and personal liberty and how the democrats are hoping to get rid of them.
I wanted to talk to him, since he's the only guy I know that was smart enough to get entirely out of stocks before the market headed south. He's a retired broker, and has common sense regarding the market, at least.
I was wondering if he noticed the NRA sticker on my truck.
To: Sam Cree
are you going to get one of those barrel extensions 300winmag saw? Naw...I think I'll just stick to the pellet/BB gun.

"A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti." Um...so I STILL don't know what fava beans are, but at least I know where you're coming from! Thanks.
Is that movie any good? I like Anthony Hopkins, but that's one I haven't seen. It's about a serial killer, isn't it?
To: HairOfTheDog
Excuse me Phil, but with these particular symptoms... LOL! We just watched that on Tuesday. Funny movie...

I knicked the census manThis before he R-U-N-N-O-F-T. Another GREAT movie. One of the few DVDs I own.

I've run into so many people just like him both at home in AZ and here in MD- and they make me so furious. A lot of them retire to the southwest and we hate 'em- call them names like "Snowbirds". Really despise 'em. They stand around in the supermarket and beauty shops and pine away for "Back East" while looking down their noses at the laid-back desert lifestyle. On more than one occasion I recall my mother saying to them, "Well, if it's so great "Back There", go BACK!"
I had a roommate in college from California, a center of civilization by her measure. She called my beautiful AZ a "Third World Country" and us natives "just a step away from loincloths". Such a witch. (I had another roommate who actually was a witch...but that is a tale for another post...)Quentin Terrintino was her favorite director and she watched his movies nightly. Ahh, yes. Civilization.
To be fair, I have met an Easterner who really embraced the southwestern lifestyle. He was a wacky, liberal art professor who moved to Sedona and got overly into the new age thing. One day he pranced into class and spun around like a runway model. "Well? Do you notice anything different?" We figured he had his past lives read again, or his aura was especially sparkly. "I'm wearing blue jeans!" he announced. "I've never worn blue jeans to work before." He was city folk from New York having the time of his life.
But the snobbery is what I hate most (well, after hating taxes and oppressive laws) about living in the DC-Baltimore-Philly corridor. I accidentally used "folks" and "teeter-totter" in the classroom once and was accused of being a "hick". It became a small buzz- "Oh, Ms. L is such a hick!" I really hate the east coast!
Oooooh this could turn into a rant! You've really fired me up, Sam! (it's ok, though).

"Silence of the Lambs" is one heck of a thriller. Don't watch it alone. Hopkins is brilliant. Foster is quite convincing. Excellent flick.

Always be careful when someone comes to your door at night. You never know who it might be.

I thought you were from the PR of Maryland.
This fellow was born and bred in Atlanta, thinks he therefore knows something about, "flyover country," guess not, tho, Atlanta is just an insular urban society like any other, apparently.
Yes, there are some really bad people who are rednecks, but no rural area I've been to comes close to producing the amount of crime and depravity of our cities. And I love our cities.
We have another friend, won't live anywhere but Manhatten, she recently told me that she wouldn't consider letting her kids go to college in the midwest, only New York state or California would do, she considers the rest of the country a cultural wasteland. Talk about insular narrowmindedness.

I have a date with my wife, kids, and father-in-law to go see TTT tonight. My FIL hasn't seen it yet so I'm looking forward to bringing him.
I asked my 6-year old, Jacob, when potty break is at the movie. He said, "Before we go in and at the Arwen parts." ;^)

Hey Corin, do you know where those statistics are that talk about the relative criminality concerning the blue states vs. the red? Try BushCountry.org
Not sure that's it, but you can get the map there.

I was wondering if he noticed the NRA sticker on my truck. *snicker* My office does "token" Christmas gifts. A couple of guys have started giving donations "in your name." Last year it was the Salvation Army and the Make-A-Wish Foundation...both worthy causes.
I'm thinking next year, just to be an SOB, I'm gonna contribute in everybody's name to the NRA and/or National Right to Life.

I thought you were from the PR of Maryland. I live here under duress. My heart and soul will always be tied to the American West.
But alas, I'm an Army bride and go where ordered. Now that Big'ol is 'retired' we're staying for the new job. When he 'retires' a second time, I'm dragging him home to AZ. I imagine there'll be more Californians living there than I can deal with so we may have to settle for Wyoming or Idaho.
