The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I think we're going to have to declare all McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, etc off limits.

Hair; thanks for finding it and reposting; it was an interesting article with some good closeups, though he didn't catch the good one you found of Legola's quiver.

I read on another message board, that the bow Legolas actually used in the shooting scenes was a composite bow designed to be "dry fired". Normally a bow can sustain damage when pulled and released without an arrow, a different set of vibrations is set up, the arrows soften or change the vibration patterns. Since it hasn't been verified by a second source, take it at face value, there may be something to it, who knows.

It's a shame that someone with an archery background didn't write up an article or two about the bows used in the film, training, etc. etc. I think a lot of non-archers as well would have found it "fascinating" to quote another pointy eared actor.

I only have one cup of cafe con leche for breakfast, I usually skip lunch and have a sensible dinner. My biggest problem is snacking.

A popsicle here, a candy bar there, an entire box of Crunch N Munch...LOL!!!

G'nad, thank you for posting your powerful and moving testimony to God's love. Your own courage in the face of such adversity is wonderful to behold. When we turn ourselves over to His will, all things are possible.

I'll be proud and honored to shake your hand some day, until that time Salute.

I made it home fine guys. Thanks. I think it's just a cold and this afternoon was a combination of not enough sleep and the Drixoral.

When I pointed out that I've gone from pinkeye to a sinus/ear infection to this, the Mrs. reminded me "you didn't get a flu shot did you?"

I don't know how much of this that would've prevented. But I've managed to pick up just about everything this season.

OK - I shall see it!

I am gonna go kill people for awhile in video games. Running for my life even 'virtually' has got to be better than no excercise at all!

Well, you guys have seen my picture, so I'm guessing that I've got the most to lose, so to speak.

I've struggled with this all my life, but a friend turned me onto, of all things, an infomercial. So, I'm doing the Michael Thurmond 6-week Body Sculpting Makeover. I've not followed it religiously. But Tuesday will be six weeks and I should have lost almost 40 lbs by then.

It's an amazing program and it comes with food plans, exercise plans and everything you need. You get a custom menu based on your body type. Bascially I have 5-6 smaller meals a day. I usually skip the evening snack. But I've eliminated (more or less) salt, sugar and refined flour.

It's better than Atkins, 'cause I get carbohydrates. In fact they're required. So I'm having rice and potatoes or sweet potatoes for lunch and dinner every day. And I don't get hungry.

The best part is that over the last six weeks, when I was in Kentucky, for the little one's birthday and last weekend just for the heck of it, I've gone way off the diet, and I've still lost this much.

This may very well have saved my life. Until my friend told me about this program (we're built much the same, but he wasn't as heavey as me and he lost 47 lbs.) I was pursuing bariatric surgery.

That tells you how desperate I was. Because it was complications from that surgery that eventually killed my Dad. He was only 49. I'm at about the same age he was when he had the surgery.

Here's the Link to the program. I don't make any money from it...Honest...;-)

Glad to see you're feeling better, Corin! :)

I've got to get to bed. The baby will be up in a few hours and I'd better try to catch a nap while I can!

Good night, Hole Dwellers!
