Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'll just divide and separate them. Sounds like a military strategery...
We must be a couple of weeks behind you in terms of planting time. I want to put Black-eyed Susans and Sunflowers at the end of my driveway (which is currently covered with leaves and dead branches).
When should I plan them. And, if I decide I want daylillies, when do I plan them?
To: Corin Stormhands
That's a little too rational for Maryland. The libs *felt* like the best thing to do was wipe the slate. Now they're thinking about closing schools early due to the flurries! Ah well, it matters not. My (future) children will not attend any state school- especially this state.
To: Corin Stormhands
I'd keep an eye on your local garden center. They usually stock stuff around the time when they're supposed to be planted.
I've always planted daylily bulbs and I think they can go in early spring (March to April) although they say that spring-flowering bulbs do better if planted in the fall. I suppose you can get some plants in the spring. Usually when you find plants at the garden store, it's time to put them out in the ground.
As for Black-eyed Susan: if you want to grow them from seed (I always get a kick out of watching the seedlings push up through the dirt) you should plant them indoors 8 to 6 weeks before you want to plant them outside. That's usually after the first frost. My average frost date is April 17 so I aim for late April/early May.
Sunflowers like heat and I usually direct seed them May to June. I'll have to check the seed packages to make sure.
Anyway....my Daddy always told me to have everything planted by the end of May or they won't be established well enough for summer's heat.

I *would* like to see France someday, but I don't think I'll be going any time soon!

Thanks for the computer help. I'll try it out tonight.

Thanks for your comp tip too. I'll try stuff out tonight.

You are Elwing the White, Princess of Doriath, wife
of Earendil the Mariner and mother of Elrond
and Elros. When the sons of Feanor attacked
Arvernian you threw yourself into the sea with
your Silmaril, but Ulmo of the Waters turned
you into a bird and you flew to the safety of
Earendil's ship. Together you sailed to Aman to
beg the aid of the Valar. When Earendil and the
Silmaril were set into the sky you settled in a
tower in Aman and flew to greet your husband
whenever he drew near.

Thanks. I planted about 5 dozen dafodils last fall. Then things I was planning to do more, but things got busy with my F-I-L.
I'll check the stores. I think I've probably got a little time.
But when I got in the car this morning I was thinking "man I really want to get to work on the yard."

Good morning!
Steve actually didn't come in till nearly 11pm last night. His class was cancelled, but he has some major presentation he has to give for the city today and he was preparing for it. He's been working on it for weeks and one of his classes allowed him to give the presentation for practice and extra credit!
I forgot it was tomorrow. He came in and started pulling his wardrobe together...what he intended to wear. He pulled out the ironing board for his slacks and I told him to go get washed up, I'd iron his slacks. So he goes and gets in the shower and I take one look at his slacks and just groan! I swear, he must have washed his good BLACK slacks in the washer with a white fuzzy towel! LOL It had little pills all over it.
THANK GOD I got one of those little jobbers that whisks the pills off clothes! A lent remover, you know? It whirrs and collects the link in a little ball inside. I got all the little lint balls off his pants and steamed them with the iron...they looked great.
I wish I'd seen him before he went to work...I bet he looked great. He wore the tie I gave him...it has little red-eyed tree frogs all over it, but you can't really tell until you look real close.
We also discussed his thesis last night. Apparently, the city needs a study done on the effectiveness of constructed wetlands...you know, made for drainage purposes? Well, he's going to do the study and it's going to be his thesis too, so he can work on his thesis at work.

I guess Ruthy's too busy to fix breakfast?
Lemmee see if I can help out...rummage...rummage...rummage...
I've got some cereal. Looks like Captain Crunch and Grape Nuts are our best options. I'll get the milk...*snif*...eeewww..er sorry, no milk.
I'll make a strong pot of coffee and maybe there's some pop tarts in the cabinet...or some leftover pizza...nope, Jr. ate that.
That's the best I can do. I'm not a natural cook...
To: Corin Stormhands
I had a Walmart cinnemon roll...for a little while. I got about half of it eaten and, even though he'd already had his breakfast, Joshua claimed the rest of it.
sigh!

Stores stock some bulbs in the spring....I just can't remember which ones. I know daffodils and crocus....the early stuff... are planted in the fall. You could probably find some daylily plants to transplant later on.

Corin - LOL!! I'm here just in time I see!
I'll add to your preparations with some biscuits and sausage gravy, fried eggs and grits, 4 platters of bacon, 3 plates of sausage links and a few ham & cheese omelets. I've put some sauteed mushrooms, green peppers and onions on the side to add to your meal, if you like. I've got the coffee ready and juices are chilled in the icechest. ENJOY!!
Ksen - Prayers continue for Tami. I hope it turns out to be a vitamin deficency of some kind. It's the "not knowing" that adds to the frustration, I'm sure. Give her a big hug from me, please. :)
DT - Poor Gidget! :( I know it has to be done so here's hoping she has a quick recovery time!

Best of luck to Steve.
I have a tie with little tiny elephants all over it. It's navy, red and white and I sometimes wear it if I want to make a "statement."
Reminds me tho. I went to a conservative Christian college. As a joke somebody gave one of the Bible profs a "screw you" tie (the letter "U" with a screw). He didn't get it and liked to wear it to class.
Wetlands are a good thing. Conservatives should pay more attention to the environment. I don't want government regulations. I want personal responsibility.

I just had some cereal and juice. But at least I remembered the coffee this morning.

I've gotta get my car from the shop here in a while, so I better get school done early this morning. See you later on this afternoon, maybe!

Good morning, Morning folk!
[sip!]
Trying to wake up here!
How come there isn't any good RoTK news? - I would think the spies would be a well-oiled machine by now.... unless they've all been snuffed out... hmmmmm....
To: Corin Stormhands
You're welcome!
Corin! Was that you!?
To: RMDupree; Overtaxed
*Whew!* Ruthie, you saved the day. Corin meant well, but cereal just wasn't going to cut it today!
I'm sad because I'm leaving for my parent's house on Friday and Gidget is having her surgery today. So I'm just boarding her at the vet's until Sunday. That way someone will be there to give her pain pills and watch over her. I couldn't let a sore Gidget deal with a hissing Zoe all weekend while I was gone :-( But I'm missing her so much already! Zoe was meowing last night and this morning more than usual. I think she misses Gidget!
