Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Because she's an illegal alien I don't think she's an illegal alien. She was brought from S. America by a charitable organization that does this sort of thing. They don't bring a bunch of kids, but they do bring some for transplants, corrective plastic surgery, etc. I don't have any problem with it. I don't know that anyone else was 'denied' a transplant. Who gets them and when is mostly a crapshoot, anyway.
To: SuziQ
Yes... but it didn't register. I mean that caught me totally off guard. Watching it the 2nd time, you catch alot of the clues...but that one blew by me big time.
To: Overtaxed
I understand.

I liked Bruce's character in Pulp Fiction too. I loved that storyline. Walken's character was hilarious.
To: SuziQ
I knew the twist from the get-go because I kept hearing "With a surpise ending you won't forget" and "the plot twist was amazing" blah blah. Kind of gave it away. What else could the plot twist be? Then when I saw his wife wasn't interacting with him, nor the boy's mother I knew I was right.
To: Dawntreader
I thought he should have won an Academy Award for that performance...

that Mahoney person has used the "m" word. What I heard last night is that the band asked for permission to use pyrotechnics and the club owner had said ok. Whether or not the club was allowed to do that according to local ordinances, I don't know. It is just a horrible accident as far as I'm concerned. Why don't people just accept that accidents DO happen, and sometimes things are not really anyone's fault? But I didn't lose anyone in the fire, that I know of, so I guess that's easy for me to say.
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
Oh, I didn't know she was an "illegal", are you sure about that? I didn't check the sources, but they were saying that her family payed some coyote $5000 to get them into the country.
To: SuziQ
On Fox this morning, the fire chief said that the club has passed its fire inspection, but it was not authorized by either the city or state for fireworks.
This really is a shame.
When I was a teenager, I remember watching the Beverly Hills Supper Club burning... 168 people died that night, so I understand what your state is going through.

What's wrong with tinfoil?

I knew the twist from the get-go ... Well, in my defense of being totally blown away, I watched it at 4:00 a.m. while holding the baby (that was in our acid-reflux days)
To: SuziQ
What I heard last night is that the band asked for permission to use pyrotechnics and the club owner had said ok. The club owner is denying that. And a co-worker just told me there's a club owner in New Jersey who said they were also surprised by the pyrotechnics...but nothing happened there.

What I heard last night is that the band asked for permission to use pyrotechnics and the club owner had said ok. Oh...Mahoney is the head of the charitable organization that brought the girl to Duke for surgery. He's saying that if she dies, Duke Hospital is guilty of murder....at least that is what this reporter person is saying.
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
Yes, he is overlooked all too often. I'm really excited to see him in "Tears of the Sun".
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
That was the best scene in the movie... a real laugh out loud moment. I think Joaquin Phoenix was good in this movie.

"Well, in my defense of being totally blown away, I watched it at 4:00 a.m. while holding the baby"That's ok then ;-)

Coyote? I'm not familiar with that term. Someone who smuggles in illegals?
Well, if she is "illegal" then the whole thing is a farce and people would be right to criticize, but if, on the other hand, as Suzi says above, it was a charitable relief effort undertaken on this poor girl's behalf, then I have no problem with that whatsoever. I have contributed to such causes in the past... Operation Smile, I think it was called. To help kids with cleft palates, etc...

Coyote? I'm not familiar with that term. Someone who smuggles in illegals?Yes. That's right.
