Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That is the weirdest thing I've ever seen! Yeah - It is at least as weird as the Nimoy.

I'm in Texas.Really? We ought to get together to view The Movie sometime... ;)

"I love the Music Man. I'm just not thrilled with this version. Give me Robert Preston and Shirley Jones any day. "Oh my gosh. I really like Broderick, but I really really hated the new version. And I've never been a fan of the Kristen (Kirsten) woman. VERY annoying voice.
I agree....no one can beat Preston and Jones!!

Did you see that book link, Rosie?Oh! Yes, I did! Forgot to thank you, didn't I? :-) Thanks!

Would it not work to get the top of the line (more or less) laptop and a larger monitor he could connect to at home?
Just talked to the wife. We'll need to wait about a week since we have an appointment next week with his "academic coach" who will work with us specifically on what he needs as well as teach him how to use it.

There's a huge fire at an oil refinery off of Staten Island.Great... now the price of gas is going to go up another $0.50/gal this week...

"When I was in college I worked in NYC over Christmas and actually got to see Yul Brynner in The King and I."I'm jealous!! That would have been awesome.
The only stars I've seen on stage have been Cloris Leachman and Ned Beatty in Showboat. I haven't seen any other big names on stage. Although I will be seeing Bronson Pinchot (ack..spelling?) in Stones In His Pockets in March. Does Balki count as a celebrity? I loved Balki when I was younger LOL

Glenn Beck just reported that crude oil is up $1.00 a barrel since the blast...
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Think so? That might be fun! And EAT!!

Rosie, since OS-X is based on Unix, I find it interesting actually! But, the Mac's closed architecture scheme just drives me crazy... I need a system I can open up and change if I want to.
Corin, the laptop with a nice external monitor is not a bad idea. Make sure you get an external keyboard and mouse too... and don't skimp on the warranty coverage. Since this is for Jr., if you go with Dell, I would recommend the "complete care" coverage.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I would recommend the "complete care" coverage. Yeah. That's a major consideration.

I never did get my media mail package...btw.
I contacted the guy that sent it, to make sure nothing had happened on his end and he said he mailed it on the 29th of January. This guy is a really good person, has over 2000 feedbacks with NO negatives, and I've dealt with him a few times before, so I am pretty sure he didn't rip me off.
He told me to contact him on Tues or Wed of next week if I still hadn't received it. Why do you think he wants me to do that? I don't think it would be right for him to have to give me my money back or anything...it's not his fault if it got lost in the mail...

Hi everyone, sorry I'm late!
My mom had a doctor's appointment this morning so I got into work a bit late and just got caught up on the thread.
Elevenses / 2nd breakfast / lunch is ready!
Roast beef sandwiches, Cuban sandwiches, fried chicken, ham and cheese omelets, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, po-ta-to chips, 2 plates of bacon and sausage patties, as well as, fried T-bones and pork chops. Plenty of coffee, juice and soda. ENJOY!!
DT - So glad to see you're back! :)
ecurbh - Now WHY would you do that to poor Gollum??!! Poor thing. He doesn't deserve that!
Hair - Sean Astin in Texas! :( Why oh why couldn't it be Miami? And those ticket prices are dirt cheap! *sobbing* Must...pull....myself...together...

Yep...it's about a half hour from where I live, but in such a small state, it's all relative, you know?
I used to hang at this place all the time in my heyday...this is a massive tragedy for this state. We're up to 60 dead...still digging.

.. might go to see "Gods and Generals" this afternoon...The reviewer from the NY Times was in a real snit about this movie. I think he was mainly po'd because it was kind to the Confederacy! I'm not sure if you can link to THIS or not, but we can give it a try.

The one in RI? Seamus knows the place.I thought about Seamus when we saw this on the news last night, thought I wasn't worried for him. I didn't think he'd be out club-hopping on a Thurs. night! We couldn't believe it; the cameraman caught the beginnings of the fire, and it got so big SO fast! I didn't read until I got up this morning that 54 people had died. That is so sad! I have cousins in Providence RI.
