Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

You know, that's what get's me about the Canteen. It's so graphic intensive that I can't access it, with my 56K and I wonder if the troops (who they say the thread is for) can even actually access it! And the graphics are unbelievable sometimes! Posting little cartoon figures of men that look like they are little "Village People". I just can't imagine that the troops are gonna want to see these sissy-looking cartoon characters.
I like the idea of the Canteen, but can't stand to go there! I really like Tonk.

Morning all. It's cold here. Ready for coffee
Corin sorry about all your troll meetings. hate those.
To: Corin Stormhands
Now, when you say
troll what do you mean?
I keep having memories of the school I taught at. The building with the library was very old and gothic (it actually had gargoyles inside) and so were the librarians. The boys called them "trolls" because they were little and wrinkled, and really, really grouchy and would get into mischief by making "Beware of trolls" signs and taping them all over the place. A favorite was to make a "Troll" sign with an arrow pointing up and taping it to the circulation desk when the kid would lean up against it. It was a fantastic description of the old prunes- even us teachers called them trolls!
To: Lil'freeper
er, unclear sentence: the boys would run around taping signs...not the trolls themselves.

Now, when you say troll what do you mean? 'Round here, they're just the self-important people that won't go away. They think what they're trying to do actually means something. And they love to hear themselves talk about it.
My meeting yesterday afternoon that took 2 1/2 hours could have been handled in 45 minutes...tops...or better yet, by email.

Well, I kinda expect him to do the danish thing...and I make an allowance for it...he's not home all day and I'm not that great at fixing him snacks to take with him to work and then to school...
But sometimes I'll go buy groceries and stock completely up and then he'll go buy the same groceries, bless him, on the way home! Or once, he put his school book purchase on the debit card...$100 unexpectedly debited from our account three days before payday and caused 4 overdrafts...$100 worth of books cost us almost $200 in "overdraft protection fees".

I think it is a bunch of women who want to flirt and fawn over men, and be fawned over by men. The men that go there probably dig that, I don't know. I can't imagine how those two gifs are used.... I thought most of the dolls were cutie pie girlie girls.
No.... I never go there.
To: HairOfTheDog
Most of the cartoons that person posts are sissy-looking BOYS!
I'm telling you, Hair...that cartoon of that guy in a g-string, with my country's flag wrapped around where he takes a pee is enough to make my blood boil.

$100 unexpectedly debited from our account three days before payday and caused 4 overdrafts... Exactly. "Do not use the card until I make a deposit or transfer money" doesn't seem to register...

ummmm..... no....

True story...
I was with my friend Bob and daughter who is 6.
Picture Bob as the stereotype texas sherrif.
We were at a store, and his daughter picked up a hat and wanted to buy it. It was a stars and stripes motiff baseball cap.
He said, "No Jessie, I don't like the flag to be used as a garment. It isn't respectful" Or something like that.
I swear, not ten minutes later, on the way home, we passed a quite busty, and very pretty girl *running* in a stars and stripes bikini. [bouncy bouncy bouncy]
He made a comment along the lines of "hubba hubba" and continued watching her in the rear-view after we passed her.
I said.... "So Bob, How are you feeling about the flag as a garment now?"
He said [looking back] "Was she wearing a flag?"
ROFL!

Hello!
It's kind of dreary here this morning in Miami. We've had a bit of rain and it doesn't look like it will clear up today. *sigh* Perfect day for sleeping in, lemme tell ya!
Becky has this horrible hacking cough that really gets bad in the middle of the night. She's been on Singulair (I've run out and must refill today!) and Claritin (liquid) for a while but if I stop giving her the meds for any short period of time, the cough returns. She's been diagnosed with asthma / allergies like most kids, but I can't help but wonder how any of us managed to grow up without all of these medications. Oh well!
Becky had me up at about 4AM and her coughing eventually woke up Alyson at 4:30 or so. Oh bother!
Anyway, time for some breakfast! Cafe con leche and fresh buttered Cuban toast, along with fried eggs and bacon. Grits are steaming hot on the stove and there are some fresh Cuban pastries on the sideboard. ENJOY!!!
2J - I'm so happy to hear about Pepper! Pepper & Pippin - how cute! She will be the boss after a few weeks time, make no mistake. Pippin will need a lot of love and assurance through it and there will be some tense moments between the two, but I'm certain that most of their time will be spent chasing each other and playing! :)
g'nad - post those pics! :)

I don't want to think about money for awhile...I'm giving the guy the check for that mandolin today, so that's a huge chunk gone...granted most of the money came from the sale of my other one, but still...going to have to eat cheap and avoid any trips that take much gas for awhile...
Plus I broke down yesterday and called the ticket place back and had them upgrade our Patrick Street tickets to good ones - $25 each for me and Dad, and $23 for my sister. It's about twenty bucks difference total from the ones I originally ordered, and since it's by my own initiative, I'm not going to tell Dad, I don't think...just cover the extra cost. He'll be excited when he finds out (I may not even tell him until we walk in!), but that's a lot of money!
OK, so I'm talking about just fun stuff and not real bills. I guess I'm more like Steve and Mrs. Corin, huh? Heaven help my husband if I ever have one!

Well, some of the other pictures that person posts are just wonderful...the ones of the military and such.
He/she has one of these cartoons though, of a cowboy(??) standing looking at a flower that is just really doofy. No cowboy I know would be caught dead dressed like that and sure wouldn't want to be caught gazing at a tulip or whatever!
But back to the bandwidth deal...I mean really?!! Can the troops actually access a thread that is that graphic intensive??
