The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

We're not going to have to de-program 2J or anything are we?

I think it would be the JWs who would need that after a session with 2J! LOL!!

A little flirting does not a romantic lead make.

Oh! I thought you were talking about the movie!

how is your wife?? Have you heard anything? Did I miss a post about this?

She is fine today. We haven't heard from the Dr.'s office yet so I am taking that as a good sign.

We read the link you FReepmailed to us and although some of the symptoms match Mono there were some that didn't. For example she hasn't had the fever.

Thanks for checking. I'll let you know when we hear something.

Right now my cousin's grandson (a 2 year-old Joshua) is in the hospital with vomiting and diarrhea. From what I understand he has only had a couple ounces of fluid since yesterday. So I'll be stopping by the hospital after work.

That's no fun. We've been there with our little one. We'll keep Joshua in our prayers too.

Speaking of potentially embarrassing things I've done to myself...here's a story:

We were visiting a Baptist church when we first moved here...a very conservative branch, not Southern Baptist. Anyway, the pastor came to visit unexpectedly (something I find highly annoying) and we all sat down in the livingroom...the boys were both piled up this huge (and I'm talking recliner-sized) blow-up chair of Darth Maul! So we are sitting there with this elderly pastor trying to have a conversation with this giant devil-looking chair holding my kids!

It was very embarrassing, but also very funny. Well, I though so anyway...

Well, if he was so out of touch that he didn't know who Darth Maul was, I'd be skeptical of his "world view" anyway.

I've always made fun of the "Harvest Festivals" that are supposed to replace Halloween. There's nothing wrong with them and I respect people that don't celebrate Halloween. Our church has a great Fall Festival. But a lot of them are just Halloween parties in drag.

But at one church we used to attend they announced "No scary costumes. Come as your favorite Bible or Disney character."

So we started thinking...the witch of Endor, Rahab the Harlot, the Mad Man of the Gadarenes, Cruella de Vil...

Some people just don't think things through.

Little Joshua is right where he needs to be! Little ones get any little stomach virus and it can really lead to trouble. But in the hospital, they can get the fluids they need until they can get over the virus. Taking care of a child with a stomach virus can be exhausting, and really just nearly impossible for one that young. You just can't get the fluids in them adequately enough.

Even with my Joshua, when his stomach was torn up when we were at my FIL's funeral...I was up day and night with him, trying to get fluid in him.

If you hadn't gone to that church you would've thought he was a Jehova's Witness!

Well, I did recognize him...but he did catch us out in the yard or I might have tried to avoid the encounter!

Steve is a whole nuther story. If I don't watch him, he'll open the door to anyone and everyone. Once, when Matthew was a newborn and we were quite poor, we lived in a bad neighborhood. Late one night, some gang bangers were parked down from our house, had their booming radios going, you know? Steve got up in disgust, walked out the door, walked right up to the car full of kids in bandanas and told them to shut that racket up! I nearly died. I just knew I was gonna be a widow with a newborn baby.

Then did I ever tell you about the guys trying to get in our house on New Years 2001? About 1-2am, I had both the boys in bed with me and Steve had stayed up on the couch to watch the new year come in. He fell asleep and I hear this loud shouting and banging on the door. There was a group of guys out there and someone was actually turning the knob, trying to get in, shouting "Hey, George! Blankety blank, let us in the blankety blank door!" I dashed down the hall just in time to find Steve reaching to open the door! I shrieked at him to stop and he did, praise God. The guys finally figured out they had the wrong house and wandered off, but I shook for the rest of the night.

If I had a gun that meant business, I sure wouldn't mind answering the door...no, not near so much.

Y'all are gonna wish I'd stayed quiet! LOL
