The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

You name the time! - I am easy between Christmas and New Years. We can get together at your brother's place and watch it... perhaps we can sneak in a visit out here on one of the trips and I can show you my ponies!

Did it improve upon viewing a second time? I can't even remember any other movies that have so much in them that subsequent viewings make them better and better!

It was better the second time. I could ignore more of the errors. I still dislike Faramir's changes, but when he gets down to talk to the hobbits, the draws himself up to say his life be forfeited, well, *swoon*.

That would be so fun! Perhaps next weekend will work out. I would love to see your ponies! I will be tied up with family on Christmas day, but I think I will come down the night of the 27th and stay till Saturday evening. Perhaps we could do a Saturday morning/afternoon TTT/FOTR marathon? Are you free on the 28th?

Ah yes, I think I will like it tons more the second time, I totally did not even take in that crucial moment from Faramir.

My brain is so fried from all the emotional conflicts at work that I think I was just cut off from enjoying all that emotional stuff. It's very weird to feel so disconnected that way...if I'm not careful, I'LL end up with a mental condition too! LOL....

Ok, back. Power went out here at 10... So I got ready and went. Minus this idiot, who was drinking and had to comment on every scene, it was awesome.

I loved the ents. Whichever film critic criticized Gimli's role in this movie was way off base. Even the Arwen/Aragorn scene didn't bother me too much.

Aragorn finally coming into his Lordship was impressive.

And I can't say enough about Gollum/Smeagol. It was perfect. As soon as I saw him, that was my comment (whispered).

Well, I am going to lay down and let it all soak in.

I am free and at your service! You still have my phone number? - Call Friday night if we haven't talked before, and we can work it out!

I don't know if Scott wants to join us for a TTT view or not! Scott?

Speaking of office parties, my daughter took my wife's car into the garage where it is serviced yesterday afternoon.

The two owners and the two guys who work there were just getting ready for their "office Christmas party." My daughter said they had four cases of beer and about 3 liters of rum, plus one of the guys had gone out to get more liquor. We figured the four of them were going to have an interesting party.

We were a little relieved when we happened to drive by somewhat later and noticed that they had guests.

BTW, we are leaving tomorrow morning until Jan. 2, but will take along the laptop, so maybe I can check in once in awhile.

WB, stranger! :)

Do you need some chamomille tea?

Just got back from viewing #2...the stuff that annoyed me last time didn't annoy me as much this time. LOL I still wish they had stuck closer to the book with Faramir, though

BTW, did PJ have a cameo in this one? I noticed the Rohan children looked suspiciously like hobbit children...hehehe...

"I noticed the Rohan children looked suspiciously like hobbit children...hehehe..."

Yeah, definitely, my daughter and I noticed that too. Especially those two in Helm's Deep, during the battle, supposed they were Jackson's children again.

Excellent. I look forward to seeing you there!

The one thing that did strike me this time was how Sam's speech about the 'best stories' being so dark and terrible that you didn't know how they could ever come right. You could look at that at least two ways. The first way is the way Jackson probably meant it, as an homage to Tolkien, to LotR and Sil. I mean, how many of us the first time we read Two Towers thought Frodo was really dead? I remember wondering how I could go on...

Or there's the way Tolkien would have meant it, as a way to point to the greatest story of all...

Does anyone else see it this way?

One of the children of Rohan was Peter's son, again... I read that, and I think I saw him. And I think I read PJ's cameo was as one of the Wild Men, but I didn't even think to look for him.
