The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Been there, done that, don't really want to do it again!

I'm provisioned and have the laundry done. I've got batteries for the radio. They're predicting "wintry mix" that's supposed to end Monday morning. Let's just hope it's more of the snow/sleet variety than the freezing rain.

Michigan is going into the third year of hot, dry summers and cold, dry winters. We're under half the average snowfall right now, but it's getting bitterly cold at night again.

This messes up our water table, and the lakes, both of which are low. The rains come in bunches in the spring at planting time, and fall, at harvest time. Both the absolute wrong time for rain. This winter has seen record low temperatures for extended periods. "Global warming", my ass.

It's Your Ring ...
2/15/03, 8:27 pm EST - Demosthenes

This very odd flash thingy comes straight from Bizzaroland. Entitled "It's your ring", this is your opportunity to watch Elijah Wood sing, dance and dispense moviegoing advice. Strange doesn't even begin to describe this one. [More]

Weather goobers? - They didn't inflict the weather on you! - It isn't their fault, they just reported it!

Good Morning!

so far it's just wet here with some glazing on the car. Weather goobers here are saying mostly rain sometimes mixed with sleet or freezing rain with accumulations 1/4 to 1/2 inches of ice (we got 1 1/2 inches last time). The bad stuff is supposed to be northwest of us....so they say.....

Oooooooooooh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I've brought some corn for popping;
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

When we finally kiss good night,
How I'll hate to go out in the storm;
But if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm!

Oh the fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing.
But as long as you love me so,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Let's see: 6" on the ground 12-18" to come. Got a month's+ worth of food, four-wheel drive, the fire, two cuddly felines, one cuddly husband, lots of chores (including laundry...= warm towels), slacks to hem, a cabinet full of DVDs, and one gorgeous view out the window. Bring it on, Mother Nature!

Hope everyone is safe and snug.

Good Morning! Notice that there's no song that says "Let it ice, let it ice, let it ice."

No, but there's always the "Skater's Waltz" although I think the Blue Danube Waltz is more appropriate for ice- especially traffic.

Yeah....but that ice was already on the ground. It didn't bring down any trees on the power lines!

MORNING NEWS from TORN:

Towers To Video In June?
2/16/03, 4:48 am EST - Demosthenes

Here's one for everyone's rumourpile. Susan writes: I am a video store manager, and I just received a list of when the Oscar nominated films will hit video. Two Towers is listed for June. I called my supplier to verify this, since Fellowship hit in August, and she said that as far as they know, that is accurate. Again, street dates are subject to change, but it looks like June is it.

Shading The Story
2/16/03, 6:23 am EST - Demosthenes

This is a very interesting story about the increasing use of digital colouring in film. It mentions Lord of the Rings several times, and contains comments from LoTR crewmembers about the increasing use of colouring technology in film. [More]

So far so good. Freezing rain here. I hope all the trees that were prone to falling fell with the last storm.

Well stocked with cat food and litter. I made some biscuits this morning and will probably fire up the bread machine in a little bit. I'm looking for a bread recipe that has yogurt in it.

It's pretty much stopped now...maybe a light drizzle.

OT: good morning, it sounds like so far, so good. Freezing rain, yech.

Although we had snow from Oct to April in the AZ mountains, it was just that, snow. No freezing rain, sleet, ice.

Got that firewood all stacked and ready?
