Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Who's Mumia?I can't think of his first name right now, but he's a black man in jail in Philly for killing a police officer. According to several witnesses, he was definitely the shooter, and I believe he just walked up and shot the officer, it was not in self-defense or anything. His supporters started whining discrimination, etc, and the Hollywood glitterati got it into their heads that he's some sort of political prisoner. It doesn't help that the Philly police don't have the best record when it comes to dealing with blacks, but that doesn't change the fact of this guy's guilt!

HOD: strange mood? you liked it? didn't like it?
Since we go to only a couple of movies a year (multiple viewings of FOTR and TTT not counting in that!!) Signs was the other movie we saw last year. It was thought provoking in a good way. Mel got robbed come oscar-type awards time, but what do you expect.
To: HairOfTheDog
Er.... "I am in a really a strange mood now!So did you like the movie? I thought it was really good! I love Mel Gibson, anyway! We caught the tail end of 'Patriot' on TBS last night. That's another good one!
To: SuziQ
Oh I know who Mumia is. I guess I should have put quotes around it. People on the other side didn't know LOL!
They couldn't spell, do math, or have their pronouns in the proper case either!

Oh yes, I really did like it! There are a lot of my own thoughts in the film about holding on to faith that anyone is looking out for us, and I am pleased that he found his faith.
I loved the characterizations.... I loved the tinfoil kids, I loved the daughter with the weird neurosis about her water... I loved the conspiracy theorist in the book store that thought it was all to sell cola, I loved the military guy who had the whole strategy mapped out. I know these folks!
And I knew Mel Gibson's character too... I know what it is like to walk through this life quite sure that the world was a very bizarre place, and looking on in amazement at any of the folk who think they have got it figured out. "His name is Dr. Bamboo [sic?]? - Really now.... and what does he say?" HA!
To: Overtaxed
Ahh, I thought it was you...
Are you really short or was that guy just really tall??

He's tall....or maybe I'm short (5'3").
To: HairOfTheDog
And I knew Mel Gibson's character too... Mel tends to play "interesting" characters. Road Warrior, Bobby Riggs (how he can stomach making those "Lethal Weapon" movies with Danny Glover is beyond me), and others like that. Maybe he's working up to becoming the Charleton Heston of our era.
To: Overtaxed
Almost 3" shorter than me!
I gotta go...Steve was pretty understanding when I told him I was checking in for your report...but he has his limits.
Good job!

I guess it was meant to be!
Ha Ha, yes. And did Gidget enjoy it too? Cute dog btw. i love dogs. I'm getting a new one in March. She's the progeny of the brother of my dog that died a year ago, or her niece. I can't wait. Very excited. It will be strange having a newborn in the house again. Or, as I've said somewhere recently - I will have dog breath in the house again! yeah.

HOD; true statement about those who think they have it all figured out. I'm one of those who knows he doesn't!
OT: Hey there, you're on freerepublic, way to go. re grits, we periodically whip up a "mess" same for cornmeal mush.
SuziQ: that is great, about 10 years ago, several of us were in Branson MO working on alignments for the by-pass, the new crewperson who worked with us was a vegetarian, at breakfast one morning, the waitress was incredulous "You all don't want no meat? No meat at all?"
300WM; Not all winners but enough to keep me going to see him or at least renting the videos. I recall reading that his voice was dubbed in Mad Max since they didn't think his accent would "sell" over here.
To: HairOfTheDog
The little girl was just awesome. She had such an 'old' face for such a tiny little girl! Joaquin Phoenix was quite good in his part as well.
It was cute to see M. Night Shyamalan in the part of the Vet. I recognized him when he was shown the first time, when the family was in town having pizza. He seems like an interesting fellow; writes the story and screenplays for all his movies. Since three of his are three of my favorite movies; "Sixth Sense", "Unbreakable" and "Signs", I guess that makes me a big fan!
To: HairOfTheDog
I loved the military guy who had the whole strategy mapped out. I know these folks! Our 13 yr. old son can do a dead on impression of that guy! It is SO funny!

**beaming** You made us all so proud! *snif*
Our rain has turned to ice and is still coming down steadily. If I disappear for a few hours (or days), it's because we've lost power and/or cable.
