The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

My family is kind of laughing at me about the whole thing, but I refuse to sit around and wait until something actually does happen.

Let them laugh. I'm not going overboard. But we're gonna be a little more prepared. We should already be doing the same for a good ice storm or hurricane, so it won't be a wasted effort.

We need to bump 6 threads to run JessieK off the front page. :)

I'm not going overboard.

Exactly. I bought dog food, crackers and cookies, diapers, milk, bread, medicines, bottled water, as well as, batteries for the little TV / radio we have. All of the stuff I got will be used anyway, with the exception of 2 Parmalat milks I bought in case the power goes out.

Good morning ALL!

This is really interesting and sad! Simon Tolkien talks about seeing the Two Towers (which he seems impressed with!) but then it reminds him of the rifts in the Tolkien family...

NPR : Visionary Tolkien

Feb. 11, 2003

Among the movies nominated for Best Picture this year is The Lord of the Rings. Commentator Simon Tolkien remarks on the visionary mind of his grandfather, J.R.R., who wrote the trilogy the movie is based on. Simon relates details of his grandfather's life and how those experiences influenced The Lord of the Rings. (Simon Tolkien is author of the novel Final Witness. It's published by Random House.

And here is my post I just made to the Spoiler thread...

Finally! - A small tidbit of news... Spoiler alert!

From TheOneRing.net

ROTK: The Six-Hour Cut
2/12/03, 5:27 am EST - Tehanu

Asfaloth wrote to say that the IMBD Pro magazine had some snippets about ROTK. "Rumors in early 2003 have it that the first cut is six hours long because of the amount of material from Tolkien's original story that remains to be covered." So I guess there's still a little bit of work to be done in the editing suite.

How To Kill a Saruman
2/12/03, 5:15 am EST - leo

TORn Staffer Asfaloth dug up a small but quite funny bit of information on Christopher Lee's character of Saruman: There are reportedly five different death scenes filmed for the character of Saruman. Christopher Lee has said that he had no idea which one would be used in the final cut.

I for one hope they'll use the one from the books...

I'm so excited! My Josh, who is 8 years old, started reading Fellowship for himself yesterday. He's into Shadows of the Past already.

*sigh* Makes a Dad proud! ;^)

Good Morning, RMD!

Thanks for breakfast!

Should I also be getting prepared? This is starting to scare me.

But I put my trust in the Lord!

What can I do to prepare myself to protect myself in case of such an attack.

What about bathroom situations?

We have one bathroom, in our hall way. The idea of "sheltering in place" means that you seal off a section of the house and stay in it, right? How are we going to get to the bathroom? Maybe section off the hallway with plastic from the computer room to the bathroom?

Don't be scared, Pippin, just be cautious. Trust in the Lord because really, if worse comes to worse and we lose our life, we gain eternity with the Lord! Try to look at it that way. We are not supposed to fear death, but we are allowed to try to postpone it! :)

Be sure you have plenty of water and non-perishable food items. It's also a good idea to have a game plan as to where you will be safest in your home!

They're right across the hall from each other so you may be able to seal off that part of the hall between the computer room and the bathroom.

If not, a bucket will work in a pinch! *grin*

I got offered that job today! It doesn't start for another three weeks, so I have time to keep looking for something a bit more to my liking. This a takes a great deal of pressure off though. Thanks for all your prayers!

Woo! Hoo! Alright ecurbh! I bet that does take some pressure off you.

Oh absolutely!! LOL

I'm thinking now of just sectioning off the entire back part of the house, from the bathroom back. That way everyone would have a room, I could move the microwave back here (assuming we have electricity) and we could have a little privacy.

That's only 6 windows.

LOL! - But I can't imagine in a scenario where you are hiding in a plastic bubble, that you will have either electricity or water. I think things are worse than that by that time.

I wonder if we can just "tent" our homes against attacks? Sort of like the fumigation tents, but more airtight?

Can you imagine? A whole neighborhood of "bubble houses"?

And folks could get that same plastic ball that "bubble guy" uses in the smoking nazi commercials!! LOL!!!
