Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

If you guys are interested, I just posted movie spoilers for most (all but The Pianist) of the Best Picture noms if you haven't seen them but are still curious. (Like to see why The Hours is CRAP! Gosh I just hate that film.)

Remember when Walmart opened not too long ago and they gave me a free photography package? Well, we got them! Here are some of the prints...
They are dark, because my mom's scanner makes them too dark...they aren't this dark in real life.

Signs was snubbed too! GrrrWe finally saw that movie last weekend. I LOVED it! They probably snubbed it because it gave a positive view of religion in the end. On the other hand, "The Pianist" dredges up the anti-Catholic garbage about Pope Pius XII supposed supporting the Nazis. I guess that's why Hollywood loved that film.
The thing that stuck me about 'Signs', and for me, seemed to make the aliens a metaphor for 'demons', was that the only two households that seem to have been invaded were the two which were struggling with their own 'demons'. Graham's in the form of his grief for his wife's death and anger at the man who caused it, and the continuing grief of the man who accidentally killed her. Both eventually 'killed' their grief, along with the aliens. The idea that water was the substance that killed them was instructive too; water is a cleansing agent, and these folks needed to be cleansed of their sorrw and anger. I thought it was a powerful movie!
