The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Why were they mortified; because Joshua was swinging away, or that you thought it was funny?

I think both! LOL

though usually I'm also a bit ticked because people usually think I'm wayyy younger than I am.

LOL!! Oh honey, in about 10 years, you'll LOVE it!

I know what you mean about large difference in ages. My older sister is 11 yrs. older than I. She married and moved away when I was 10. When I graduated from college, I ended up living and working near her. It was wonderful to see her (and for her to see me) as more of an equal.

She's a real interesting person. She finally graduated from college in the same class as her oldest child. She always teases him that she graduated FIRST though, cause her name is Brenda and his is Kenneth. She was very proud of that accomplishment (as we all were) and is now pursuing a professional writing career. She was actually Mississippi Poet of the Year, a few years ago.

Our son LOVES Junkyard Wars, though his favorite nowadays is Monster Garage. It is right up his alley!

How old is your son? I think I'm the same mental age as he is, because I like the same stuff.

Actually, I like that kind because I like predicting where the team will run into trouble, and how they fix it. I've learned that bad welds and leaky hydraulics are the two things that will do you in quickly in Junkyard Wars. For Monster Garage, never run hydraulic pumps off a fanbelt pulley. Build a custom pulley off the crankshaft pulley, put the pumps on a big honkin' bracket, and use a heavy-duty drive belt.

I missed it...that's why I had to come back!

The new job's not working out so well, but luckily, I've got a pretty solid line on something else. Not only is this new prospect more $$$, but it'll be a lot better for my soul, as I'll be finally leaving the realm of Slimy Salesman.

Fingers crossed.

Other than that, my daughter started telling knock-knock jokes the other day that make absolutely no sense, but we both find them absolutely hysterical. (For point of reference, she'll be 3 in April)

Autumn: "Dad...knock knock."
Me: "Who's there?"
Autumn: "Chicken"
Me: "Chicken who?"
Autumn: "Chickeeeennnn...NUGGETS! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Hullo Seamus! Welcome home!

I'm so glad you've got a good lead into something outside of sales. :)

As far as the knock knock jokes, enjoy them while you can. Becky drove me absolutely nuts with her knock knock phase, because every punchline ended with the words "on your head".

For example:
Knock, knock
Who's there?
Banana.
Banana who?
Banana peel on your head!

The first 20 times it's funny, the next 20 they lose their appeal (no pun intended), by the 100th time I threatened to put an entire banana split on her head if she didn't come up with a different joke!

Before anyone thinks I'm a terrible mom, Becky would walk into my room and wake me up just to tell me this same joke over and over!! ARRRGGHHH!

How old is your son? I think I'm the same mental age as he is, because I like the same stuff.

He just turned 13 last week. He's been into engineering stuff for the longest time. He enjoyed Legos and K'nex when he was really young. He knew how to play with them because his older brothers played with them, and we only had one incident where he ate one.(didn't do THAT again). About 5 years ago, he had gone to his room and was quiet for a long time (which usually doesn't bode well). When I checked on him, he had built a K'nex track from the head to the foot of his bed on which a K'nex motorized car could roll!

A couple of years ago, he participated in a Lego Robotics summer program through the public school. He loved it, and the next year, was invited to be one of the mentors for that summer's program. He later was on the Middle School Robotics team (even though he's homeschooled); but this year, the new director of the team wasn't interested in his participation. Whatever. He'll probably still do the summer program if the old director is still in charge of it.

He decided recently that he wanted to create a race track for his RC Z car. He fixed this neat K'nex track with bumper rails and all and SSQ hung it from his ceiling, suspended over the bed so he can poke his head up through the middle to check on the car.

His head is always filled with ideas and things he might to. I call him my "What if" child. He's a joy, when he's not being a pain! LOL!

LOL...oh, that's classic!

She just got out of her "Daddy, what's that?" (pointing to every single object within eyesight) Phase. So, for the time being, the knock-knock jokes are a welcome change! lol

This new lead is working as a Career Counselor for a local University. I can take my recruiting knowledge, and actually put it to good use by helping students, rather than just making my company president happy, you know? Hence, it'll be better for my overall well-being.

Well, I've succeeded in trashing all her self-pity threads! The opus one, I diverted into a discussion of donuts, and she renamed it Pastries! Then she had a threaad called "Who's being mean now?" and I diverted the conversation to chicken and she renamed it Chicken and other food!!

ROFLOL

This is so fun.
