Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hehehe....wonder why Asimov didn't think of that...
To: Overtaxed
Um... he never had to deal with an insurance company?

Guess not. Maybe the Missus did all the homeowner stuff or did he live in apartments all his life?

Actually I think he lived in apartments.... NYC native and such.
Heinlein, on the other hand, knew about things like insurance and strikes and leaky faucets, which is one of many reasons why his books are so much better.

Heh...apparently Asimov didn't have a firm grip on reality

Well, no. Did you read his later novels? Almost as bad a descent into crap as *sob* Heinlein's...

Foundation was very good. Most of the rest of his stuff was not...

(Well that's what they said on that movie thread.....they suggested "fudge" instead.)
To: Overtaxed
Don't bother to read the last two... "Foundation's Edge" and "Foundation and Earth". They were absolute, uh, crud.

As I recall it was a trilogy. He wrote later ones then?

To: Overtaxed
Yes, he did. And they were bad. However the prequels were pretty good.

Heh It is all perspective isn't it? Ellensburg, WA where I went to school is notoriously windy. The Safeway store has a heavy ship chain hanging on a board with a meter on it.... This is an "Ellensburg wind gauge". I tried to find a picture, but couldn't...

HOD - "here, here, well said"
OT: well, if not wildlife habitat, how about considering an 'object-de-arte"?
Hmm. you say gave your brother the wood previously, he has a truck and a friend (that split it). I think I see a solution on the horizon... two guys and truck, tree removal inc. ;-)
To: osagebowman
Hehe...yeah. The problem is getting anything scheduled...and
he's never used a chainsaw either.

So get your brother and his kids over to help you haul the wood. Heck, give the kiddos handsaws and tell them you'll give them five bucks to chop it up and stack it. ;-)

Hmm....might work for the oldest one. I don't think a two-year-old should wield a saw.
