Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Very interesting info regarding ROTK! I can't wait to see Pelannor Fields.
I'll make a prediction, though, that the editing of ROTK will be on a par with TTT for number of scene changes... going to have just as many plot threads to follow.

Meanwhile....

Hopefully the number of scene changes will decrease as the Fellowship guys get back together.

Heehee, things are getting better. I've been doing more research into grad schools and realized what I really need is someone whose brain I can pick. I thought, hmmm, who? And then I remembered someone I had met online a few years back in a fandom who just happened to be a lady CS grad student. And it just happens that she's still in the field, and actually doing some really interesting work... so I just emailed her.
Next up, resurrecting old class syllabi to find teachers' email addresses and beg for recomendations....

You guys didn't like the scene changes? Thought they were OK.
To: Sam Cree
Sam! There you are! Pass the bottle!
To: Sam Cree
It's just that there were so many of them! The cuts from Helms Deep to Osgiliath and back kept me wondering..."now which battle is this?" Took me a few seconds to get oriented and re-oriented.
To: Overtaxed
Hopefully the number of scene changes will decrease as the Fellowship guys get back together. They spend a lot of time apart though... TTT had: 1. Frodo, Sam, & Gollum (and later Faramir) in Ithilien; 2. Aragorn, Legolas, & Gimli (and later Gandalf) in Rohan and Helm's Deep; 3. Merry & Pippin & The Ents on the way to Orthanc. ROTK will have: 1. Frodo, Sam, & Gollum going into Mordor; 2. Pippin & Gandalf in Gondor; 3. Merry & The Riders heading to Gondor; 4. Aragorn, Legolas, & Gimli on the Paths of the Dead and later arriving like the cavalry.
So, ROTK will have one more concurrent story thread than TTT did. Lots of "meanwhiles"!
To: Sam Cree
Hi Sam!
The scene change issue seems to be a male/female thing... the ladies didn't like the quick changes, the guys thought they were ok.
Well, in general, anyway.

Here, have a swig.
Getting set to sleep, as I have one more day in Palm Beach, have to get up at 05:30.
Am attending a figure painting workshop in which we are painting a naked hippy guy, *gag*, which is apropos of your Gondor post today. Thank God, yesterday the model was an attractive brunette lady, *joy*.

You guys didn't like the scene changes?I didn't really want to choke PJ until the fifteenth or sixteenth flippin SWITCH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLIPPIN GOOD PART! AND THEN FLIPPIN SWITCHING AGAIN THE MINUTE I GET SETTLED DOWN IN THE NEW PLACE AGAIN.
Other than the moments I want to choke the Director, I love the film. [grin]
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
At least Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas meet up with Pippin and Merry for a while and then later on at Minas Tirith. But then they'll probably make cuts to Elrond and Arwen again.....meanwile....

That's funny, I didn't know our preferences broke down that way. I thought the scene changes were ok, when you got tired of one part of the movie, it changed for you for awhile.
How's it going?

But then they'll probably make cuts to Elrond and Arwen again.....meanwile....Don't forget Denethor and Faramir too...
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Yes but the Denethor/Faramir bit runs with the Pippin/Gandalf part of the story so at least we'll stay in the same city!

My main complaints were the changes from the book, such as elves at HD, etc.
However it was still great. I agree w/ you in that I kind of liked the book FOTR better than the middle book, so it makes sense that we'd like the movie FOTR better too.
To: HairOfTheDog
Hehe, that's the way I love to write. Cliffhanger after cliffhanger. I loved it!

I think I would have liked it better with fewer cuts and longer segments of each story line.

It was the cuts back to "Meanwhile back in the forest" during the battle of helm's deep that really bug me, because the pacing in Fangorn was so far behind. If both were building in tension at the same rate, it may not have bugged me so much. It seemed that just as things were about to come to a head in Helm's Deep we would cut to Fangorn just to confirm that there was still, in fact, nothing happening in the forest.
The cuts back to Frodo and Sam didn't bother me as much, nor really the cuts back to Arwen, HOWEVER, I just think they should have covered a little more in each of those cuts back to her than they did.
