Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That's the one good thing I can say about super duper cold weather...ice storms just don't happen...

Hullo! I am here. We had about 2 inches. Schools are closed, so I didn't get up early enough to check in from home.
Got another branch down in the back yard. Just missed the deck. Couldn't tell this morning which tree it came from.
Need more coffee.
LF: mini-haha on the Betazoid joke...

oh... okay... geek!

2 inches and the schools are closed!?... what a scam...

That's the one good thing I can say about super duper cold weather...ice storms just don't happen... That's what I tell the damnyankees who laugh at us when we close for snow and ice. If it was just snow, that'd be one thing. It's the ice and the fact that when we get that wintry mix we usually hover right around the freezing mark, so it melts in the day and re-freezes at night.
Of course we can't drive in rain either...
To: g'nad
Am I the only one to make it in today?... Got a foot of snow here... still got to work on time...Them 4 wheel drives is nice, huh? They'll still slip on ice, though, won't they?
They had predictions in Boston and the Cape area of 4-9", but we've only gotten about an inch, and the local radio weatherguy is predicting only an inch more at the most since we're north of the Mass Pike. And after I made my trek to the grocery store yesterday, stinking of chlorine and all! Harumph! That's ok, I've enjoyed the snow about as much as I can stand. I want to see some green, ok brown, grass!

If only I could remember half of the jokes that man comes up with. We cringe whenever he walks in the office. He is also our security nazi, our time-sheet nazi, our time-management nazi, our SOP nazi, etc. Of all the days to be trapped in a building with four people- why did he have to be one of them? Ah well, can't complain too much. Got to drive my new jeep in crunchy snow! Wheee!
To: Lil'freeper
yesterday I became the proud new mamma of a Jeep Liberty: Woo Hoo!! Did you get that purty red one?
To: ksen
Sorry, but the only white stuff on the ground around here is this: Shut up!!

Shut up!! Yeah! What she said!
I love Perdido Beach

That's what I tell the damnyankees who laugh at us when we close for snow and ice. Yeah, I get a kick watching them trying to drive on ice.

And of course, my younger siblings want me to get a minivan.Oh come one, Rosie! They're not THAT bad. You could get a red one with cool stripes down the side and a spoiler on the back like we have!

White stuff on our road; 1/2 inch snow plus 1 inch of salt! Think the salt trucks over-reacted a tad.
To: SuziQ
It's garnet! or burgundy! or something like that. Red is sporty and all, but they tend to get more tickets (or so I've heard). And since I have a heavy foot....
To: Overtaxed
Yeah, I get a kick watching them trying to drive on ice. Whilst listening (or humming) the Blue Danube waltz. ;)
To: SuziQ
But they're soo...I dunno...practical! Not very exciting. And what self respecting single gal drives a minivan?
They DO have lots of room for instruments, people and pets...and I did actually give in and test drive one awhile back. But still! It's the image thing! ;-)

Yeah, I get a kick watching them trying to drive on ice. Hey, we still get ice storms! Just not every time it snows.
Unfortunately, other than vehicles with studded tires, NO vehicle is that stable on ice, IMO. Scary stuff.
