The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

ROFL! I'm not sure how you did it, but that is great!
Have you got your mail yet? Should be a single large cookie, almost the size of a small pan cake, coming your way today!

It's bad enough here that on some narrower roads they went through with dump trucks and carted some snow away. There was nowhere left to push it.We had 14 inches on Christmas Day, another 8 on New Year's day, and have had two snowfalls since that were each about 4-6 inches. We had rain the other day, and it didn't even seem to make a dent in the snowpack!
The snowhills from clearing the parking lot at church were beginning to dwarf the 3 story Rectory! Somone finally came in and moved all that snow to the empty lot on the other side of the Rectory. Our Pastor wrote a note in the bulletin last week that the staff was taking bets on how long it would take for that mountain of snow to melt! Back in 1993, the pile in front of the Rectory was so high that you couldn't even SEE it from across the parking lot! That pile finally melted sometime in April.
SSQ said the other day that he has enjoyed the snow this year, but now he's sick of it and wants it to GO AWAY!

No Bake Cookies. I can send the recipe when I get home...I don't remember the exact measurements. You mix butter sugar and cocoa over a burner and stir in peanut butter and oats. Then drop on wax paper and let them cool.

That pile finally melted sometime in April.I've seen some winters where the huge piles in parking lots and such haven't melted until June! But alas, we haven't had much snow this year, yet anyway. I am really enjoying it. Send us some more!

I've seen some winters where the huge piles in parking lots and such haven't melted until June! That's just wrong.

I've seen some winters where the huge piles in parking lots and such haven't melted until June! Yeah...I was thinking the same thing! Get a little further north, and though sometimes we don't get as much as they do in the lower half of the state and in MA, we are stuck with it longer. Ugh!
There's a town near us that has a yearly lottery thing - people guess when the ice will break up in the pond across from the general store. Usually in late May, as I recall. And with the cold weather we've had...well, it's gonna be late this year!

Yeah, we have contests like that too. And at the beginning of winter the big one is if you can guess the first day that we get at least 2 inches of measurable snow, (and have your name drawn from among those who guessed the same day), you win a really nice snowblower. But this year nobody won it, 'cause nobody guessed late enough. We didn't officially get more than 2 inches in a single storm until January something!

That's just wrong. You are right about that, it is wrong when it lasts that long...
Home life cooling off a bit? I hope.... I pray....
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
Sounds like a fun contest! We had a late starting winter, too...had our first big snows the week of Christmas.
Then it got cold. Really cold. And supposed to go back to that next week. At least it's getting into the twenties this week.

Profiles! That's new, isn't it? It's been sooooo long since I used to frequent eBay. I wonder if my feedback even shows up anymore! I do use eBay's sister site a lot -
http://www.half.com I do a lot of my movie / music shopping there. Not auctions, though. More like a big garage sale. ;-)
