The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

"I'm not completely shutting Star Wars out of my life," DiCillo said. "I'm sure I'll see Episode III when it comes out, but I'm done waiting in line overnight. When [third Rings installment] Return Of The King comes out, I know it'll be a proper trilogy-ending climax, and not some slapdash retread of the more memorable parts from the first two films."You know, while this article came from The Onion, it actually makes sense.
Of course, Lucas intended Star Wars to be a homage to the war movies and serials of the 40s-50s. It's action/adventure done brilliantly at times, while at other times he's just going through the motions. One big debt we owe him is for developing the technology that changed special effects forever, and making a believable LOTR possible.
Tolkien, however, created an entire universe as a setting for his mythology. LOTR is just a glimpse at a small part of it that made it into print.
I wish I could remember the source of the quote, but it struck me about the scale of the underlying work. "Lord of the Rings is The Illiad of the twentieth century". It was not intended for geeks (although this geek is profoundly grateful), but for an educated person.
Lucas created entertainment, but Tolkien created enlightenment.

Shoving pills down her throat, wouldn't feed her, dragged her out from under the bed, shoved her in a box, and left her with strangers all day. sounds like my kids...

g'nad; I absolutely can't wait till you get settled in! I really hope we get to meet.
Steve came in last night and there was no TV on. He went and took a shower and came in the kitchen (!) and visited with me while I was cleaning. Actually sat there while he ate his supper and talked! Discussed the day and everything, had a nice visit and I actually had him laughing out loud a couple of times! (I'm good at that if given the opportunity, you know?)
Now I have been avoiding the computer you know since we had that last big blow-up, so I'm kinda used to not being on it when he's around. But turning this TV off is new and I'm beginning to think it's a very good idea! I think he must have given it some thought too, and either 1.)decided to give it an honest try or 2.) be nice to me till I relent.

You know, while this article came from The Onion, it actually makes sense. There are a lot od Onion Articles that make a lot of sense! ;~D The best humor is 90% truth!
I love this one! It cracks me up!
"I stuck it out, I really did," a saddened Janus said. "I tried to make it work. But Star Wars just didn't hold up its end. A relationship is a two-way street. If George had told me he didn't want to do any more Star Wars movies after the original trilogy, yes, that would have hurt. But it would have been better than dragging me along like this. What he ended up doing was just passive-aggressive bulls***."

Good morning! I'm having coffee and a nice cinnamon roll from Walmart. You can get a whole pan of them for a couple of bucks!
I tell you I love this new place! They have these cups with domed lids...you know like they put slushies in? Well, they put popcorn chicken in the cup...the girl crammed as much as she could into the cup using the lid. I give that to the boys and they snack on it the whole time I'm shopping (it's a super Walmart, so it has groceries and such). Then when you check out, they just swipe the cup.
There are a few things at Aldis I like, but a lot of the stuff has comparable prices at Walmart and they take checks!

I get a kick outta you likin' WalMart so much. When the Mrs. was working there, we got pretty tired of it. But they have some great deals.
To: Corin Stormhands
Was it a super walmart? I like it that I can have my oil changed and buy my groceries at the same time and pay for it all at once!
