Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Does PayPal have a dollar limit on what people can send, though? Seems like it used to be that way - and it was a relatively low amount; couple hundred or so.
I hear ya on the food chain bit...

Yeah, but what do I know? I do more breaking that fixing lately...maybe should do the OPPOSITE of anything I say! SSShhhhh.... Don't say that so loud. Steve might hear. And make 2J turn off her computer again tonight.

Do you have an IBM stapler?

There is a limit on how much money you can receive, though. It's several hundred dollars per quarter, but once you reach that, they figure you're a dealer, and you have to start paying a fee. If you don't, they freeze your account. I hit that limit, and then bit the bullet and signed up as a dealer.

a dealer....He's a dealer ya'll. Watch yourselves.

Do you have an IBM stapler? No. Is it that generic gray Swingline model? I have one that has the GM logo and "property of General Motors" on it, but I use it for actual work, and not collecting. I'm assuming the IBM one is the same model. And yes, I'd be interested.
Oh, I forgot to mention my prize IBM collectible: an IBM M1 carbine, made in 1943. IBM, along with other unlikely manufacturing companies, made carbines in WW2. IBM is in the middle ranks as far as rarity goes, but mine is untouched by upgrades since the day it left the plant in Poughkeepsie. That makes it pretty rare as far as most M1 carbines go, today.
It's also the one piece of IBM history that the company has dumped into the memory hole, and never acknowledges.
I also have a prize medal from a New York state shooting tournament held at the IBM Country Club in 1953. They had trap, skeet, and target ranges there, and hosted lots of events. That is also un-PC for the company to admit today.
ARGH...the C-Span video won't load. I keep getting an error message. Must be too busy. At least I can listen to it. Powell is doing really well.

And yes, I'd be interested. you won the auction. fast wasn't it? no, it isn't gray. it's flat black. circa 1980 or so. i have a couple of other non-valuable things that say IBM around too I think. I'll look. Remind me... and I'll bring them to entmoot.

*mumbling* yep, it's lunch time on the east coast. secret meetings abound
To: Wneighbor
Hehehe....I've been following the Colin Powell live thread. Now for some lunch!
To: Overtaxed
I'm checking out the live thread over at DU. They think those audio tapes were faked LOL

Came in early and took care of two of the systems that weren't working, with the help of my boss.See, I told ya! Glad to hear things are working out well.
Y'all had snow, we had rain, but at least it washed some of the road crud off the car. Need to take it in for a good washing anyway. That will get the crud off the undercarriage!
To: Wneighbor
eyeball leakYikes! You, too! Seems to be a lot of that going around the last few days!
The list is posted on the Dose every night so that we'll all be reminded to pray. Names are added every day, it seems. Thomas will be well prayed for, don't you worry!
To: Wneighbor
therefore, i think it must have been a big bird with a king size black bedspread throwed over itself and 2 long tubular things hanging way down for legs. 6 foot pantyhose stuffed with something. but the head and hands i can't figure out yet. There are NAZGUL in Texas?! ;o)
To: 300winmag
There is a limit on how much money you can receive, thoughYeah, that must be what I'm thinking of. So I don't think Paypal is an option in this case.
Well...I'm gonna ask around locally, and I posted one classified on a mandolin site. We'll see how that goes.

My car has sooooo much slush built up under it and behind the wheels. I HATE that stuff! When it's cold, I can't get the slush warts off, and they just keep building until I can feel them on turns. And when it's warm, they drop off and get in the way when I'm backing out of my drive. Yuck.

Comes in the living room and switches on the TV. I said "Could you turn that thing off? It's bothering me." Tee Hee!
To: SuziQ
There are NAZGUL in Texas?! hadn't thought of that. Because it didn't look like the nazgul as pictured in my mind back then. And it didn't look like PJ's nazgul. It wasn't as wide horizontal I think. Probably about 6 feet wide and 6 feet tall. No beak, flat face-like but it was dark enough that we couldn't see what was on the face --- oh no!!! nazgul you're right. But, legs hanging down. We were on a patio with an awning. Legs almost hit the awning as it flew over us. And it screamed.
To: RosieCotton
slush warts? what's a slush wart? sounds like an orc thing.
To: Wneighbor
Well...I don't know what else to call 'em! When you drive in cold, snowy, slushy weather, the muddy slushy gunk on the roads builds up behind the wheels and under the car. Hangs down in big blobs, and if it's cold long enough and you don't kick 'em off, they interfere with steering. Or in any case, make a lot of noise and friction when you turn. I hates 'em.
