The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

And I have the grey hair coming in fast to prove it!!

I don't.

I ought to own L'Oreal by now though with all these years of support I've given them. They probably had to change their whole manufacturing plan last year when I decided to change colors.

We wouldn't plan anything involving dirt, except walking on it.

Well ya'll must be better elves than I am then if you can walk around out there without getting it on you. hmmm. maybe I'm not really an elf after all. it just gets all over everything. But, it's so worth it. It's so gorgeous out there.

nothing I've ever seen matches the rural night sky in winter when the temperature is below zero... some of the northern HH'ers probably know what I'm referring to. ;)

You're right, Bear. A couple of weeks ago, we were out late and looked up at the clearest sky I'd ever seen! In the winter, the air is so cold, there is none of the heaviness associated with warm weather, so it seems like there is NO air barrier between us and the heavens.

If it weren't so danged cold, I'd love to stay out in it! When we do Astronomy in homeschool, we're gonna get a really nice telescope, so I'll HAVE to get used to being out in the cold!

My sisters color their hair, too. A few years ago, I decided that I had to choose between color OR perm. I went the way of curls. Our daughter takes after SSQ and has gorgeous curly hair. She complains about it because it can tangle so easily. I tell her not to complain because I have to BUY my curls!

Forget that! Just wimp out like me and go to Ft. Davis in the summer. ;-) I'll meet you out there. We'll have fun. We can play and get dirty. You won't even have to buy your own telescope, they have a bunch of 'em set up for you to look through over at the observatory. And it's pretty. Mountains. Mexican Food. Desert. Mexican Food. Rio Grande rafting, canoeing or kayaking. Mexican Food. Cacti and cool succulents of all sorts. Mexican Food. Hot Springs that actually have restorative values. And lots of places that you stop in to eat have great homemade salsa too.

I decided that I had to choose between color OR perm.

I had to choose between color OR straightener! In high school I straightened. Parents wouldn't allow color. You know, only trashy folks do stuff like that. So, upon graduation, after moving to Washington state (so they wouldn't catch me) I switched to coloring.

Only thing is. No one wants my kind of curls. They're friz. Just kind of like a big huge chunk of really well used brillo pad.

Memorandum: To America From God
February 1, 2003

America, this crew you chose, is the finest in the land,
And if you'll pause a moment, I will share with you my plan.
The message I delivered to the crew was very clear,
"This flight goes straight to Heaven, fear not, for I am near."
"My children I am with you, this trip is one I've planned,
Yes....this trip is something special, it's one that God will man.
Heaven's Great Space Center needs some special help up there.
The Master has now summoned and is asking us to share."
They quickly volunteered for this mission in the sky,
Not a one was unprepared, not a one afraid to try.
"You'll go swiftly to the Master, and that trail of smoke they'll see,
Is the 'changing of the pilots,' for you're traveling on with me."
"You must leave this famous shuttle that you're sitting in, behind,
For the one I built that's waiting, is pure gold and silver lined,
As you search the fields of Texas in hopes to find them there,
Rest assured they're here beside Me and I have them in My care."
"You have trained them well, America, I've observed your every test,
I stood silently and waited, until you had the best.
I needed them, America, for Heaven's Great Space Plan
Encompasses the entire globe, The Universe of Man."
"I know them well, America, these loved ones you have lost,
I selected them some time ago, forgetting not the cost.
America, my heart is grieved, by your sorrow, tears and pain, and
Though it's little comfort, your loss is Heaven's gain."

By the way, how is your DVD drive? Still not working?

I still couldn't get that driver I downloaded to work, but I downloaded a decoder (Cinescape trial version) and installed it. The DVD player worked with the decoder. Now I just have to find a free one, or wait until MaximusDVD gets their site back up.

I meant to tell you earlier, thanks for reminding me.

You know there's other places in Texas to see interesting stuff too. San Antonio 1975.... lots of weird stuff. Sort of like a bird. Sort of like a man. dark colored. it flew. it screeched. (like a nazgul)

Bosque County mid '70's. something large, ape-like, hairy, stunk to high heaven, followed up and down the north fork, kind of went up some of the creeks from time to time.

And then there's the 5 bona-fide strange objects in the sky sightings in Mosheim.

Aahhhh, don't worry about it.

It's not your fault their a bunch of wet blankets. It just amazes me that some people have the need to try to dampen any enthusiasm people may have for something if they don't like it.
