The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Does the chocolate drown out the smell of the Bailey's? Hehehe...depends on how much Bailey's you put in.

Prayers will be goin' out...

Prayers for your SIL, WN!
I'm a worrier by nature too, so I can sincerely understand what your daughter's "fret level" must be at this point.
To: 2Jedismom
LOL! you are a class act, 2JM...
To: g'nad
Thanks. I know you have lots of men and women in this category on your prayer list already. I've known this was coming. My daughter has been in denial. We found out Saturday morning.... right after the shuttle.... Saturday was not a good day.

I drive by houses with "Say NO to War with Iraq!" signs in the front yard. Some cubicles and offices at work have the Peace sign from the 1960's prominently displayed. It bothers me that people are so deluded about the nature of evil, and are so unwilling to confront it.
So, while I am not praying for war, I am certain that it is inevitable, and necessary. And I support our President.
But I grieve for the ugliness of war that will come, and I fear for the uncertainties that a conflict will bring... I've read the war poetry and literature arising out of WWI (most notably, Erich Maria Remarque, and Wilfred Owen) which makes clear the hideous nature of war. So I am conflicted to some extent. My faith steers me one way, and my sense of justice and righteousness steers me another, my fears for the future my children will inherit steers me yet another... These are trying times....

Thanks Ruthie. My daughter and I are very different in the worry department. I am known to scream prayers at God. And invoke all kinds of Godly protection. But, once I'm through with that I just don't think about it. Jill is opposite. She broods on what-if's. I feel really bad for her right now. Wish I could give her my no-worries ability and I'd gladly take it on for her. (Just like we think when our kids get those childhood illnesses.) At least I'm hoping that having 2 toddlers to care for is going to ease things a bit. (starting to tear up in front of the classroom taking exam now.... conversation stops.)

The storm is coming, and I'm concerned that this is just the opening round to a large scale conflagration... in our fallen world, it is inevitable...
It's a fight we must win... we cannot run from it...

My faith steers me one way, and my sense of justice and righteousness steers me another...What is it about your faith that it steers you away from war with Iraq?
I guess the only thing that would make me squeamish is the possibility of having to kill another Christian. Our pastor read a story from the newspaper about the Christians living in Iraq (probably spiritually descended from the Wise Men of the Gospels), so they do exist in Iraq.

"I guess this is how Challenger felt...."That was a sad day. I was in the 6th grade. They announced it over the loud speaker and had a TV on in the library playing the news. Very sad day :-(

It's a fight we must win... we cannot run from it... Can I just say AMEN to that? Although, I will ask for prayer, I will not stand back from the necesity of the fight.

What is it about your faith that it steers you away from war with Iraq? I guess it would hinge around the knowledge of the infinite worth and redeemability of every human life. And the tragedy of having to destroy such life. It's not something that should be contemplated lightly....

I didn't respond to Martin. I started to, and ended up closing out of Internet Explorer before posting.
Jens' wasn't quite so bad, so I responded to him instead. He apologized, which almost makes me feel bad for picking on his post instead of the other, but I'm still annoyed with Martin.
