Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

We're going to spend some time tonight just watching movies here, some harmless comedy and a spy thriller. I think it's a good idea, we're getting morbid.
I'm so glad you guys have been here. This has been a hard day and I'm glad that I always, no matter what the problem is, have somewhere to go. What do people without a Hole do?

The news is still on here, and the other side of FR has made me mad a few times, so I am gonna get away a bit tonight. Going up to the beach house tonight to watch movies too...

Yes, it's odd, I was reading other threads about Columbia, but this is where I wanted to post.
Maybe not so odd, I'm comfortable here.

The lumberpile is so uninspiring isn't it? - I still have branches all over the place too from out windstorms of a month ago. I keep looking at them, and they aren't going away.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Same with me....lurking on the Columbia threads and posting here.

There are things more important than wood!
I looked up the verse President Bush quoted. It's Isaiah 40:26. Chapter 40 starts off
"Comfort, yes, comfort My people" says your God
"Speak comfort to Jerusalem and cry out to her
That her warfare is ended
That her inquity is pardoned...
"Every valley shall be exalted
And every mountain and hill brought low
The crooked places shall be made straight
And the rough places smooth;
The glory of the Lord shall be revealed
And all flesh shall see it together
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken..."
And the ending of the chapter
"His understanding is unsearchable
He gives power to the weak
And to those who have no might He increases strength...
They shall mount up with wings like eagles
They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint."
I find it very comforting tonight to think about thosee words. There isn't much that does offer comfort...

The lumberpile is depressing but I should cut some of it up to tote back for firewood. Instead, I've been freeping between speeches and news conferences all day.
To: JenB
I can't remember which channel I was on right after Bush's speech (I've been on Fox mostly but was switching to CNN or network looking for good pictures) Some dumb head reporter/commentator was remarking on that part about how inspiring it was when Bush said that the same God who made the heavens and knew the names of all the stars also knew the 7 astronauts (I know.....I'm really bad about paraphrasing). I'm over here saying "where did you think he got that from, you moron!"

It comforts me to know that our President is someone who believes in something, and Someone, greater than himself. Don't think we could ever say that about Clinton.

Don't think we could ever say that about Clinton.Klinton turning up at any sort of memorial ceremony turns it into an obscenity. I got the creeps watching the sinkmaster present MOHs to the widows of those two soldiers in Somalia. Klinton isn't worthy to shine the boots of the guys doing KP, much less those two heroes. "Duty, Honor, Country" has never penetrated his egotistical soul.
"Lord, please keep the klintons far away from any memorial. If they DO show up, please make sure they're loudly booed, and it's covered worldwide. Amen".

Well, something not near so tragic fell at my parents house...
Apparently, a couple of days ago someone came around the corner going too fast and a gas grill fell out of the back of their truck! Right by my parent's house! My dad heard the racket, came out to see the truck speeding down the road. He went and gathered up all the pieces of the grill and placed it on the side of the road. The grill sat there for 2 days before my dad brought it in the garage.
So I'm over there today and Dad says "Take a look at this grill and see if you want it. I looked it over, it had some scrapes, was a little dusty and the handle was broken...but looked ok otherwise, so I hauled it home with me. I washed it all up, Steve re-seated the handle, we re-assembled it and Wah-lah! We now have a nice gas grill!

We grilled steaks and hot dogs, onions and garlic toast.

2JM: if this goes through, it will be the first time in many hours I have been able to post; I like the fence, 'good fences make good neighbors'.
We have been following other threads but keep coming back here to read posts, as others have said, its like being among friends.
To: osagebowman
Yep, that fence behind me (and the one we put across the front, from our house to the nieghbor's fence) give us a great deal of privacy. The rest is chain link, back where our yard meets the nieghbors yard. Except that they don't keep the sandburrs under control, it's nice, because we visit with each other. It was the first thing we did, when we moved here...put that fence up. The streets are pretty busy and I wanted the kids to be able to play somewhat freely.
We've been outside all day. The news came on saying that if debris fell nearby, to call the FBI...I suppose something could blow this far.
I was working on the bills, balancing the checkbook...so I thought I'd check in...tell about the new grill.
To: 2Jedismom
You never cease to amaze! Even when you're not trying to get good deals, they just fall into your lap anyway!
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
LOL Actually, my parents were lucky in the instance...but they already have a very deluxe grill...so I got this one.
To: 2Jedismom
