The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!
Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Wow! you get five hours of sleep every night? How do you manage on so much sleep?Well...it's tough, but I get by!
I suppose if I had little kids I'd be more appreciative?
To: Sam Cree
The only pics I've posted were the ones from our Christmas production. I was in there, but I wasn't exactly "myself."

Weren't you the ones talking about the
Amber books?
I was doing some research at the library last night and saw the two Amber Chronicles books so I picked them up. I started reading the first one last night but only got to where Corey(Corwin?) releases himself from the hospital and takes a bus or whatever to NY. I fell asleep and didn't wake up til about 2:00am so I cashed it in for the rest of the night.

What nationality do you suppose Barrett Bonden is? re: his accent.Don't know! Maybe the trailer will reveal something? I can't watch it until I'm home. I really hope they let him use his normal accent, though, as it's lovely. Hard to understand at times, but lovely.
There are interviews with him on his website - both he and the interviewer have STRONG accents. I love it!

I suppose if I had little kids I'd be more appreciative?Nah, my kids are in bed by 8:30 for the boys and 9:30 for Elizabeth. It is not them that keep me up, it is me. I just get to doing things and before I know it it is 2:00am and I have get up by 6:30am to get ready for work.

"What's up with Disney and the movies based on theme park rides?"Lack of ideas?
"Are these kid's movies? They don't look like it from the previews and advertisements. "
The Country Bears was a kid movie...I don't think Pirates is though. Guess we'll find out later. I don't think it's rated yet.
I didn't see The Country Bears, but judging from the previews I would say it was pretty awful. I hope Pirates is better!

Disney...crash and burn...Hehehehe

Against my better judgement...
Click here I'm in the green sweater and I'm the Fiddler on the Left. You can't really see the missus well.
However the beard is gone and the hair is much, much shorter. ;-)

How did your day go Scott? I went to bed at 8:20, if that's any indication. First meeting with my new attorney, second meeting (and it'll be a really long one) today.
My attorney hadn't reviewed anything but the bare surface during our first talk -- but he was making some encouraging noises (much more positive than I thought the situation was, but then I'm pretty pessimistic about these creeps). Today we get into the meat of the matter and begin planning our proposal (negotiations) back to my agency. I got the quick sense from my attorney that he wouldn't be all that troubled if the negotiations failed to end amicably. I think he senses a really big smackdown (in public, of my "enemies") in court if we go there. I'll get a better feel today after he's done an in-depth review today.
The hardest part of all this is that I'm still going in to work every day too (which is one of Dante's lower levels of hell). I have a lot of good friends at work who want to storm the Bastille for me. I actually made more women cry yesterday than I ever have in my life! The women at work got very upset. I don't think I'll be the last to leave over this.

Howdy ma'am... you go and git s'more shut eye... I did! - And then I got up and had some breakfast! - Catching up now while I sip coffee.
Several little news items for your information, amusement or other fair uses!
"Frodo Failed."
1/28/03, 7:04 pm EST - Tehanu
There's a picture doing the rounds of the Net with George Bush's hand shown in closeup, wearing the One Ring. It's been used as a poster image at peace marches in the US and elsewhere, and of course Ringers forward us 5 or 6 copies of it daily, which clogs our mail a bit. We posted that image more than a year ago and it triggered an orgy of insults and namecalling between Ringers who are on opposite sides of the political spectrum. Not a pretty sight nor one I want to see repeated - most people come here to relax, after all. So please, STOP SENDING US THE "FRODO FAILED" picture. Thanks![HA! - Hair]
Listen to The Silmarillion.
1/29/03, 5:21 am EST - Tehanu
The Silmarillion is a long read, some people find. Now it's being offered as an MP3 audiobook, with a very fine reader, according to Larry. [More]
LOTR.net Update: Isengard

The official site, LordoftheRings.net, has been updated with a nice feature about Isengard. It includes a nice interview with Brad Dourif (Grima) and an article about the people behind the Isengard 'miniature', you can check it out here!

Ah, the joys of DSL! :-DYeah, trials and tribulation, no?
But I'm loving it! I've been trying to find "Sliders" on DVD or video for awhile now and had no luck - but there are TONS of episodes out there to download. Since it's not available to buy and these are (relatively low quality) recordings taped off TV, I don't think it's really that bad to just download 'em. Wouldn't do it with most movies, but...
To: Dawntreader
Thanks for that big pic, DT! Susan is a huge fan of Johnny Depp (and I guess I am too by proxy), so I'm sure we'll be seeing that movie in the near future....

PS2 = Playstation 2
SOCOM = SOCOM: US Navy Seals...game for the PS2
I forget what SOCOM stands for though. It's cool because you get a headset and your teammates respond to your voice commands. So last night I was barking out "Bravo, hold fire!" "Bravo, stealth to Zulu!" "Bravo, follow me!" LOL Very fun, realistic game!

You and your wife, and the little one are always on our minds too. Thanks for letting us know about your worries.
