We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]
Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
GLOBAL WARNING ACTIVIST ALERT!!
December 7 record low temperature:
Washington Dulles Airport - former record: 18 (set various years)
Washington Dulles Airport - new record: 3 (set in 2002)
Other temperatures around the Washington metro area:
Washington: 21 [not a new record]
Richmond: 21
Petersburg: 18
Patuxent River: 14
Roanoke: 13
Fredericksburg: 12
Charlottesville: 12
Lynchburg: 12
Manassas: 0 [ZERO]
Here, at the cottage: a nice, balmy 9.9
Question for the global warming people: considering that current low temperature records for the day were not simply broken, but crushed, does this fit your "models"? Hmmm?
In the news:
Runoff election day in Louisiana. And what would an election be if it didn't have a Criminal Party vote buying scandal? Landrieu is accused of trying to buy military votes with $10 Thanksgiving food gift certificates. The claim is reported in The Washington Times, and comes from Gen. George Peyton Cole, Jr., retired.
North Carolina has activated the National Guard to help storm victims.
And one of the hottest toys this Christmas shopping season? A talking President Bush doll. The Daily News reports the doll says "17 powerful and patriotic phrases," including:
"Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot shake the foundation of America."
"I will not yield. I will not rest. I will not relent in waging this struggle for freedom and security for the American people."
And what would a President Bush doll be without a mangled phrase? They included: "I will not hold this nation hostile."
Reportedly the manufacturer is also planning dolls for JFK, and President Reagan.
[They are also planning one for UOx42, but it is not clear whether one of the phrases for that doll would be: "I never had sex with that woman."]
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
If the Titans won, good for you guys (if you are fans).
You renting from Gore? ;>)

Have you noticed how clear the playoff picture looks in the NFC compared with the AFC? In the NFC, all 6 teams are almost set with, I think, only the Giants still having a chance to knock a team out. In the AFC, most divisions are very tight and several teams will probably be in the hunt for a wildcard spot on the last week.
The Titans looked really good against the Colts. We're tied for first now, but more importantly have 2 wins against the Colts and are 4-0 in our division. If not for that lousy 1-point loss at Baltimore 2 weeks ago, we'd be on an 8-game winning streak.
After a sucessfull weekend of being up in time to wake the rooster, and cooking good food for some of our nation's fighting men and women, I'm feeling truly blessed.

The panel pointed out how wrong the media was. And how they are still in denial.
That set me to thinking about 1960 and my anger back then about the the Bay of Pigs. You will recall that Ike had trained Cuban refugees to invade Cuba at the Bay of Pigs. They Cuban refugees were to invade Cuba and overthrow Castro. They were supposed to have US air cover. The cover story after the terrible defeat was the CIA convinced Kennedy that they would not need air cover. Kennedy supposedly listened to the CIA and canceled it at the last moment. Presidents can blame stuff on the CIA. It is against the law for them to defend themselves. Castro's troops killed nearly all the invasion force because they had no air cover. I could have told them that when I was 9 years old.
The memory of the Bay of Pigs brought back anger from 40 years ago. Let me explain why I was angry about the bay of pigs at the time of the bay of pigs.
I was a boy in WWII. I was 5 years old when it started and almost 10 when it ended. Little boys played war in WWII. We played at killing those Dirty Japs and Rotten Germans. I had pilots cap. It was leather and looked like the ones I saw the real pilots wearing in the Movie-tone news. I had a play rifle and a pistol too. Boys my age all knew about amphibious invasions. We knew about B25 and later the B-17 Super Fortress that softened the dirty japs up. We knew about all the fighter planes that had 30 and 50 caliber machine guns.We knew that bombers and fighters that kept the japs heads down when the marines made an amphibious landing. WE knew how to take a pacific island. We new amhibious invasions. We played it with our pilots caps on and our arms spread like wings.
Jack Kennedy was not a boy during WWII. He was a navel officer in the Pacific theater. So he must have known at least as much about amphibious invasions as a 9 year old boy. I learned what I knew from my granddad and the Movie-tone news.
Yet Jack Claimed the CIA told him they did not need air cover. I was in the Army at the time he made this excuse. I would have known they needed Air cover when I was a 9 year old boy. Wouldn't JFK Know? Wouldn't any 30 year old CIA guy know. Even guys that did not fight in WWII knew. Guys that never went to war knew the tactics of and amphibious invasion. North Africa, Sicily, Italy and D-Day... the public knew about amphibious landings in 1944.
The only logical conclusion is JKF lied and blamed it on the CIA. I think he was scared of the Russia. Obviously the Russians figured that out too. If Nixon had been elected in 1960, I have no doubt he would have used our air-force and Castro would have been overthrown long before the Cuban Missile crisis could have developed. There could have been no Cuban Missile crisis with Castro gone and a pro American government in power.
I say that because I believe it was JKF's cowardice that led the Russians to try the Cuban Missile crisis. Note to that we did not win the Cuban missile crisis. We had missiles deployed in Turkey. Ike had put them there. The Russians agreed to pull out of Cuba if we pulled out of Turkey. We agreed. They pulled out of Cuba. We pulled out of Turkey. I think that was the Russian goal all along.
So when I hear the Rhapsody in Blue played for JFK's foreign policy, I can only say his domestic policy was good. His foreign policy was a disaster. When you add the JFK disaster to what LBJ wrought, you see what an international mess Dick Nixon inherited. But Nixon divided and conquered. He drove a wedge between the Soviet Union and China that Jimmy Carter could not bridge. Reagan finished the game. I do know that Reagan as president talked to Nixon a lot. I don't know what was said, but they talked a lot.
I listen to the Democrats make the case that Bush Sr. should have gone to Baghdad, but that was not nearly as bad as JFK's failure to go to Havana. It has occurred to me that you would have to be on some kind of dumb pills to reject a battle plan drawn up by Ike.... cause you thought you knew better. Ike never lost a battle. JFK and LBJ never won one.
Now I am mad all over again !
On another topic, what are your thoughts on the economic team shake-up? I know there is a plan here, but I am not really seeing the whole thing. Wall Street wants someone who will cater to them (and may I add that they are certainly a bunch of whiners) and I am not so sure that is what they are going to get. I think there is a good chance Don Evans will be Secretary of the Treasury.
Your take on the ShowGirls inspired me to put up a section on my website,
If Backseats Could Talk
I didn't even know it was Vice President Garner in that photograph until my father's partner looked through the book and exclaimed, "Heh, that's the man whose job wasn't worth a bucket of spit!" The photo is from the Library of Congress and had no reference to Garner in the citation.
I know there is a plan here, but I am not really seeing the whole thing. Wall Street wants someone who will cater to them (and may I add that they are certainly a bunch of whiners)If I may quote from WH Taft, who was faced with a dramatic stock drop in late 1909-1910,
They dont frighten me at all with the cry of panic.Wall Street whined and whined, and the New York Times accused the President of destroying the earth with a billion dollars loss in market value. Sound familiar? Multiply that number by 2002 dollars. Taft said,
Wall Street, as an aggregation, is the biggest ass that I have run across.
