Help! Flash Movie Player Mess.

I installed Flash Movie player when I installed Internet Explorer. Okay stuff, funny animations and some games are done in Flash.
Now the problem. Some idiot came up with Flash Movie advertisements. These hover over the newly opened web page. You can't see the page until they are over, also they play loud music and announcements. TV Guide is the worst, they have a 5 minute job for "24" and it plays every time you update the page to see what's coming on next.
Enough is enough said I. I went to uninstall Flash Movie Player. Surprise! It does not show in the Add/Remove programs menu. Even Norton can't find it.
I went to Macromedia's home page and got their uninstaller. It did nothing.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this or disable it?

Flash is deployed as an ActiveX control (an *.ocx) file. On my system, it is located at \winnt\system32\macromed\flash.ocx.
If all else fails, you can simply delete this file, although it would be better to remove its bindings from the registry (using RegEdit). The registry key for Flash is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Macromedia\Flash

Thanks!
I am going to wait a little while longer and see what other solutions are posted, but you are #1 with a bullet!

I don't have any solution.
But I could ask how to avoid that bad happenning!
Sourcery's solution seems to make sense!

If you have sufficient hard drive space, download a different broweser, such as Mozilla. Use IE when you want to use plug ins like Flash or Real, use Mozilla when you don't want to be bothered by pop-up ads or want to limit cookies. That way you will still have access to Flash when you want it. The browsers will initially fight over who gets to be default, but they will eventually settle down to the roles that you assign.
