He seems to be a fan of the books, but perhaps another good read and some discussion in the Hobbit Hole or the Green Dragon would improve his opinion of the movie???
For instance, he sees Eowyn's attraction to Aragorn as part of a 'triangle' not as part of Tolien's character-building subplot. For me, (female) that meeting and rejection by Aragorn feed her hopelessness that impelled her into battle as Dernhelm. When she finally falls for Faramir- that is another completion of a 'character developement' plot and a satisfying one at that.
I'm not typically an action movie fan, so I'm not looking forward to much to Helm's Deep, but I sure am happy to hear that the Ent Attack is fully realized. From my first reading of the books I have wanted to see the Ents!
Don't know, but I suspect that there are a lot of 'character' moments that fans will see that might elude others and those that have only read the books once- at least that is what I get out of this review.
Aside from missing the whole Bombadil sequence, the only real regret that I had with FotR was that instead of getting to see Glorfindel we got Arwen. I understand the script choice- I just relished the book-time with both Glorfindel and Gildor and missed their presence in FotR.
This is very exciting news - All Together Now - - Yeah!!!!
It's not something you can easily chop from the storyline.
And I'd be peeved as hell if they did.
