I'm going to control myself and wait until Christmas for the CD. One of our kids is going to get it for me! But at least I'll only have to wait 6 days from when we see the movie (on the 19th) to listen to the soundtrack!
I'm on pins and needles waiting for TTT to come out!
I have the first 6 tracks from the album, let me just say that the opening track is the most amazing and powerful piece Howard Shore has ever composed.
Mindblowing!
I have already ordered from Amazon, and the tiny clip we got of Foundations of Stone does sound WONDERFUL!
BTW, I also ordered 3 books- TTT photo, movie guide and TTT creatures- Now that's pretty cool, they have smashing pictures of Treebeard, and all manner of stuff. Kind of a neat preview. They also have a fold-out of Helm's Deep- both daylight and night-time- with notations about the various locations and battle strategies. Really helps to visualize how and where the battle was taking place. If I was into the digital camera stuff I could send a couple neat shots. But, alas, not into camera stuff.
Anyway, since I've already purchased the soundtrack- could I have mp3's of TTT?
Foundations Of Stone
The Taming Of Smeagol
The Riders Of Rohan
The Uruk Hai
The Passage Of The Marshes
The King Of The Golden Hall
If I see anymore, I'll let you know!
But about halfway through Track 1.....oh my goodness me, what a track...incredible!
Many thanks.
An Icelandic singer, Emiliana Torrini.
I saw that name and assumed she was Italian. Is that her married name? Traditional Icelandic last names end in -son for men or -dottir for women. When I first heard the song I thought she sounded like Bjork, so Emiliana Torrini being Icelandic makes sense to me now.
On a personal note: listening to the piece, and thinking about the epic John Barry-esque class and style Shore has brought to the whole of The Two Towers, something occurred to me about this final cue. "Gollum's Song" sounds a lot like a Bond title song turned on its ear, probably the darkest and most somber Bond title song you've ever heard. Don't worry: there are no backbeats or anything like that, just pure, vintage creepy Shore. But you'll know what I mean when you hear it. It's fantastic, a perfect encapsulation of the malevolent yet pathetic Gollum.
That's exactly my reaction: at first I thought I was hearing a James Bond theme, then I realized that it was stranger and more original than that. Very spooky.
