Word For The Day, Tuesday, 10/29/02
The Verbivores | 10/29/02 | The Teachers

Posted on 10/29/2002 4:43:01 AM PST by RikaStrom

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

moribund \MOR-ih-bund\, adjective:
moribundity; noun
moribundly; adverb

  1. In a dying state; dying; at the point of death.
  2. Becoming obsolete or inactive.
  3. not growing or changing; without force or vitality

If talking about books -- a subject often more personal than politics and more arguable than religion -- can be bruising, it can for the same reasons be thrilling. Yet serious literary conversation as an avocation, as an impromptu congress of amateurs, has been moribund for half a century.
--Brian Hall, "The Group," New York Times, June 6, 1999

Etymology: Latin moribundus, from mori to die. Date: circa 1721

It happens with alarming frequency. The doc in this case is a pediatrician so I doubt Argh has much to worry about.

Mistress Sea is in the frozen tundra of MT.

Frozen tundra is right. 2-3 inches of snow overnight with 4-6 inches expected during the day. I'll be crushed that she didn't come to visit.

HAHAhahahaha...

Psychiatrists are all nuts anyway, according to some (not me). But I steer clear of them, and coppers, anyway.

I prefer "youthful". Especially in comparison with an educatoress or so who shall remain nameless.

Well, I am sure some of the old neighborhood got wiped out again, but I will have to check when I leave. Where I need to go has water on the roadway and feeder roads, so I can't get up to the interstate yet. I just checked the traffic reports. I will attempt to leave in a little bit, I have too much to do not to get out of here soon.

Thanks, Doc! Someone told me many years ago that it takes a mechanical engineer to design bras. And how about those goofy flappers, tying themselves down? What a bunch of boobs.

By the way, I wonder where they're hiding the 10 pound breasts?

Those are usually found in topless bars or dairy barns.

Oh, and by the way, Your Snideness, I just received the following encomium from the enchanting, discriminating Miss January 24th over at Ye Olde Poetree Branch, and I quote: "Oh Arghie! You are a delight!"

You may paste that one in your scrapbook for future reference. Then put another copy in your smoke and pipe it. You're welcome!

That's more like thirty pounds. However, it does entail what would be an intriguing number of nipples if displayed by the females of a "higher" species...

By the way, what the heck are the PETA idiots on aboot aboot not drinking milk? Because of the cruelty (somehow) of dairy farming to cows? Don't those jerks know that if youu don't milk cows their breasts udders will explode? And as long as they've been milked, somebody might as well drink the stuff.

". . . inspired by an opera singer of Icelandic descent named Swanhilda, invents a bust halter."

Admit it, CJ, you're thinking of swan hunting again.

Dairy cattle are imprisoned, laced with hormones to improve milk production and forced to do the bidding of the farmers. They should be free to wander aimlessly through traffic causing fatal pileups on busy thoroughfares.

I was. Saturday, I was about 200 yards from a flock of swans on the water and I was more twitchy than a pedophile in a junior high locker room.
