In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
moribund \MOR-ih-bund\, adjective:
moribundity; noun
moribundly; adverb
- In a dying state; dying; at the point of death.
- Becoming obsolete or inactive.
- not growing or changing; without force or vitality
If talking about books -- a subject often more personal than politics and more arguable than religion -- can be bruising, it can for the same reasons be thrilling. Yet serious literary conversation as an avocation, as an impromptu congress of amateurs, has been moribund for half a century.
--Brian Hall, "The Group," New York Times, June 6, 1999
Etymology: Latin moribundus, from mori to die. Date: circa 1721
TOPICS: Education; Humor; Word For The Day

Well, I'm back, couldn't even get out of the neighborhood. I think I will give it another 20 minutes.

I used to love reading Flo's columns in NR, but it's been years since I got the magazine, it's awfully expensive to subscribe up here. What with the Canaduh $ being worth zilch.

The seemingly moribund investigation into the anthrax mailings is
getting new attention, with more and more people coming out and saying that the "angry lone scientist" theory the FBI has been trying to foist on us is about as valid as the "angry lone sniper" gag we all remember from the recent past.

Take the day off, teach! Tell your bosses I said it was OK.

Yeah, but I really need to get to work. The boss says as long as I am in by noon. It will probably take me that long to get there.

"A loaded 12-gauge shotgun lay on the ground near the frisky dog. "Well, there you go. Not the dog's fault.
Side o'Beef constantly uses the channel changer with his paws.

Before he shoots you, give him a hug from you-know-who. And tell him I said he shouldn't shoot you.
