Opus de Darth Sidious

Well, it was a fun ride and I made a LOT of great friends on Free Republic... including one who came to my wedding. But nothing lasts forever, and maybe in a way it's a *good* thing, 'cuz there's no convincing some people that no increase in power makes that power any more pure.

JimRob has drummed me out of Free Republic. Here's the reason he put on the screen that popped up on my end:

Your posting privilege has been revoked.

Reason: Democrat

Now, I'm not a Democrat. Haven't been one since 1994 when I changed to Republican, and haven't changed that (yet).

If JimRob is now banning people because he believes they are Democrats, he's obliterated any credibility that Free Republic has as a *conservative* forum. Conservatism espouses a free marketplace of ideas. A dissenting idea isn't something a conservative tries to muzzle: a conservative will articulate why it that idea is wrong, make his point as convincing as possible, and let the chips fall where they may. It's LIBERALS who shut off people they disagree with from entering into debate.

I've been accused of being a Democrat, an agitator, a disruptor... any number of things. I've done my damndest to promote this site in what meager ways I've been left with these past few years. Hell, I stood for four hours - for the most part alone except for an hour with another fellow Freeper - on a summer day when the mercury hit 102, to protest an UN-Constitutional practice by a nearby city. On my sign was "FreeRepublic.com". My own money, my own principles, and no one ever asked me to do it. I'll wager that that as small a thing that was, it's a helluva lot more than what most people have done in their time on Free Republic.

Today, I presented an idea - one that wasn't Republican or Democrat, or any other party's notion - that is apparently unwelcome on this forum. My belief is this: that we cannot trust a political party - ANY political party - with any great amount of power, because political parties are about nothing but power. Given enough power, the Republicans would become as corrupt and evil as the Democrats. Maybe it was my comparing the Bush-bots to the Clintonistas. Maybe it was my stating that Free Republic is fast becoming as wildly extremist as Democratic Underground. Or maybe it was my admission that, yes, I *will* vote for Erskine Bowles for U.S. Senator from North Carolina. Between the two major contenders, Bowles is the only one who is a real resident of this state... and my sentiments for North Carolina far outweigh the "needs" of any political party.

For whatever reason it was, JimRob banned me... but if it was for the crime of *once* being a Democrat, that demonstrates how shallow Free Republic is becoming. I've no love or loyalty for the Democratic party and the Republicans have given me no reason why my trust should be placed with them.

I suppose there's no room at Free Republic anymore for those of us who see America's freedom as a gift from God's grace rather than man's pride.

Sincerely, Christopher Knight "Darth Sidious"

I agree with several earlier posters, give the kid 30-40 days until the election to see if the fires cool a bit and then see if he still supports Bowles.

Sad. But Erskine Bowels???....

While I don't agree with Dart when it comes to voting for Bowles,he IS at least as conservative as Giddy Dolt. Then again,so is Ted Kennedy.

You are saying your "sentiments" outweigh President Bush's attempts to appoint conservative judges ---

I don't get it. What makes you think Bubba-2 is even going to appoint conservative judicial candidates? He's not a conservative, and doesn't even really claim to be one.

Maybe it was my comparing the Bush-bots to the Clintonistas.

Anyone that doesn't have the moral clarity to see the moral personality differences between bill clintoon and George W. Bush is not a part of what FreeRepublic.com is all about.

Your interpretation of his remark comparing the Bush-bots to the Clintinistas differs greatly from mine. I didn't get the impression that he was trying to compare Clinton to Bush…I believe the point he was trying to make was there is not a whole lot of difference between groups displaying blind allegiance to a politician whether it's a 'Pub or 'Dem. I can't fault his logic there.

Oh, then perhaps I should have re-posted the FULL comment I was responding to, then, which were quotes by the "Conservative" Darth Sidious. My mistake, FRiend. Here is the post I was responding to associated with your (apparently) very good "Conservative" FRiend Darth Sidious.......

Perhaps we should just have drop-down boxes that allow us to select from a list of acceptable responses.

More pearls of wisdom from Darth Insidious...

"Am seeing a lot more vitriole aimed at Dashle and the Democrats than I am seeing an interest in giving North Carolina the best possible leadership. That's been the tune of the GOP - whether statewide or national - during this entire election cycle. If that's the way they're gonna be, I'll gladly "punish" the GOP. And if the NC party leadership is so clueless, did anyone ever consider that a Bowles victory would be a GOOD thing? That it might justify an enema to bleed out the stagnancy that is "country club Republicanism" in this state?"

The GOP leadership, including Bush for meddling with our elections before the primary, deserves more than just a little spite. They need humbling. I'll gladly cast my vote for Bowles if that's what it takes to bring it to 'em.

I've no problem with seeing the destruction the Republican party. If it's gotten this arrogant, it SHOULD be destroyed, and let something better take its place.

The Republicans are on a power trip as much as the Democrats. And anyone who could support EITHER of them so blindly is not a patriot, but an opportunist.

That the Democrats hate the Constitution is no basis for assuming that the Republicans love it, either.

If the Democrats are evil, the Republicans are making no apparent effort to be defined as "good". The absence of a big fat "D" next to a candidate's name does not/can not mean that that candidate is necessarily better than another.

It's only force-fed if we swallow.

Punish the GOP for their stupidity: vote Bowles.

Are the Republicans so desperate to seize power, that they refer to any and all dissent as "dolts"?

That settles it all the more in my mind: the Republicans may desire power, but they do not *deserve* power.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but where is the support by Mr. Sidious for the Conservative movement in those statements???......

One thing that to know for sure around here is that you should never support anybody that had anything to do with Bill Clinton. To do so is punsishable by death. Rightfully so in some instances.

BTW, welcome to FR.

Yep! Thanks. That bears repeating, imho.......

Yeah, we sure will miss "Conservatives" like Darth Sidious:

"I'm a TrueConservative, RealPatriot, pure and chaste above all Bushbots! To demonstrate my great conservatism, I'm voting for the Democrat candidate, aka Bill Clinton's former WH CHIEF OF STAFF, for my Senator in November."

See ya Darth.

I thought she was born and raised in NC?

Giddy was born and raised in NC. She left NC to go to college about 75 years ago,and hasn't lived here since. The only reason she is here now is the same reason her mentor now lives in NY. She wants to be a Senator.

She and her whole family were yellerdawg Dims, until she married Bob Dolt. Knowing where her bread was buttered and wanting all the top slot patronage jobs, she became a instant Republican. She is still a statist Dim at heart, though.

What makes you think Bubba-2 ...

that statement is both offensive and absurd.
if you actually believe that, you are most definitely a fool, and a probable troll.

It won't be the first time that a Bowles movement has been painstakingly documented and commented upon on FR.

I think Jimmy Carter was the Doctor that cured me from any lingering urge to ever vote Democrat.

That was what did it for me,too. And now it's starting to look like the Bush's and the Dolt's are going to cure me of voting for the Dim surburban ticket, the alleged Republicans.

Not voting for Dole is understandable but that does not mean one "has" to vote.

I agree. I'd rather be shot than vote for Giddy, but if I refuse to vote for the lesser evil on the basis that it is still evil, how could I bring myself to vote for what may be a larger evil?

BTW,I honestly think he would do less damage to the country than Giddy, since I think he could be beat 6 years from now. On the other hand, once Giddy gets there, she's there as long as she wants it.

Another one of FR's more interesting FReepers is gone. It's sad... lots of disappearing FReepers lately.

I can't comment on why Darth Sidious was banned, because I really don't know what happened. I hope there was just a terrible misunderstanding and that Darth's posting privileges will be restored.

Darth, I'll especially miss your fabulous movie reviews. And congratulations to you and your new wife on your recent marriage. Hope to see you back on FR someday soon.

She's the clown who brought about the ridiculous 21 yrs. old drinking laws.

She's also the brainiac who brought about the nationwide 55 MPH speed limit. That gives you some idea of how long it's been since she's driven herself anywhere.
