Survivor V kicks off on Thursday September 19th, and since a lot of us Freepers had fun speculating on Marquesas, I thought it would be fun to start a thread on the upcoming series.
The bios are out, which you can check out here, and there's already been scandal associated with two of the castaways.
First there's Brian, an actor/used car salesman, who neglected to tell the show that he had a few "blue" movies in his past. They cast a porn star!
Then there's Tonya. Her story could have a lasting impact on the outcome of the show. Shortly before filming came to an end, Tonya's father back in Tennessee was tragically killed in a car accident. Reports are that she was immediately evacuated from the island.
If Tonya was one of the first 7 people ejected from the show, then her departure would have no impact on the outcome. However, if she made it past the merger and either onto the jury or in the final two, then that could mean one less vote in the final two, or something even stranger. Only time will tell.
As always, if you want added to/deleted from the ping list, FReepmail me.
14 days, 12 Hours, 10 Minutes (+/-) till Survivor: Thailand!
Well FReepers, the Survivor discussion websites are abuzz with talk about this seasons opening episode! The general consensus seems to be that even though the previews show Jeff P. splitting the castaways apart with his Men on the left, Women on the right directions, coupled with Ghandia stating something like Were gonna kick the mens butts, they will eventually be split into two tribes with both men and women in the same tribe. (This is based on color of buffs, who is seen with whom, where the camps are located, etc. etc.) Although, it seems that its not an even 4 men and 4 women per tribe split.
Well, Mark Burnett did say that this seasons opener would be surprising!
Ill get off my soapbox.
Enjoy,
So its 4:30 practice for the 8-9 year old boys soccer team my son Ian is on and I am coaching. I'm early, as usual, setting up cones for the drills and muttering about the futility of all these never ending seasons (this is 3rd kid, and I've now coached over 30 bball or soccer teams). But hey, its a nice fall evening starting and the sun is shinning and even the worst practice is better than work, so my attitude is better now.
The first mom arrives to drop junior and has a few friends in tow that she introduces me to. First is a very nice woman named Jenna, shes hanging with this dark curly haired guy, very quiet, Nike soccer shirt on, looking down, kinda tracing circles in the grass with his tow, as she speaks.
Moms chatting away and mentions this guy is a professional player from Boston, and maybe would i like him to assist this practice? Assist, shucks he can have it.
She finallty gets to the name portion of this intro, and this mans name is Ethan, which doesn't really click, until he lifts his head and i see his face. Me being not so sharp at the end of a long week, I ask him. Don't I know you from somewhere? (LOL am i lame or what?)He VERY kindly says no, you may have seen me on Survivor Africa, I'm Ethan, I won.
So we shake hands and procede to start the 90 minute practice. This man is so kind to the kids its unreal. After a few minutes, I just tell him, take it, run it all evening, I'll just watch the master at work. He spends the entire time having a ball with these little boys, and teaching some great new skills at the same time.
This guy was unbelievably nice, quiet, gentle, and sweet. As I'm watching him, I'm thinking to myself, these are all the qualities that kept him under the radar and allowed him to win that Survivor, and how wonderful that a nice guy got that far, and did so well.
It ends up that Jenna was from the first survivor, but it didnt click for me because I didnt start watching until SII. In chatting with her she seemed very sweet as well. Both were in town,(Newport Beach, CA) Staying at this moms house, who I find out works for Mark Burnett productions.
We finished with a team photo with Ethan and went our seperate ways. I just had to report to the Survivor fans what a nice, regular, unaffected person he was. BTW, 100% of the kids had no clue that he was some Hollywood type (which it appears he isn't anyways)they only saw him as the pro soccer player that wanted to help them. Very cool.
Why you old dog you!
Prattling on about Ethan this and Ethan that, and thought you would just slip in "Oh by the way I also meet Jenna."
Thought we wouldn't notice, huh? Thought you could keep her to yourself, huh?
Well, we'll let it slide for now, but don't let it happen again.
Great story by the way!
:~D

2 days, 7 Hours, 5 Minutes (+/-) till Survivor: Thailand!
Well FReepers, as I said in my last epistle, the Survivor discussion websites are buzzing with all sorts of speculation regarding the first episode. Here are just a few of the comments being bandied about:
Its gonna be the men against the women. Why else would Jeff P. tell them Men on the right, Women on the left? and why else would Ghandia say Were gonna kick the mens butts?
No, I saw a vidcap showing both Ken and Steph at the same camp, wearing the same colored buff
Well, I saw a vidcap showing three different colored buffs which mean that there will be three different tribes.
And so on, and so on.
Well dear friends, here is what I have seen.
I have seen different vidcaps of men and women wearing the same colored buffs.
I have seen, different vidcaps of men and women working at the same campsite.
And I have seen different vidcaps of two or three men together and vidcaps of two or three women together.
What I have NOT seen are any vidcaps (other than entire group photos during their arrival or during a challenge) showing both men and women together.
Hmmmmmmmm???????
Does this mean that its gonna be men against the women?
Does this mean that its gonna start out with the men against the women, but later change into two or possibly even three different tribes?
Ive even toyed with the idea of them pulling a totally random tribal switch-a-roo/mix-up every three days in order to avoid any alliance building.
Only two things are certainties:
1. Mark Burnett has stated that this season of Survivor will be completely different than any of the others, with all new challenges, and that the first episode will surprise everyone.
2. The only vidcaps that anybody has seen are the ones that Mark Burnett has allowed to be aired.
Now regarding my original predictions:
Im beginning to think that Shii Ann, is a little too mouthy and pushy for everyone elses taste, so she might not make it to the Jury.
The same goes for Ghandia.
Then again, it could just be Mark Burnett throwing us more Red Herrings. Well see.
Ill get off my soapbox now and let someone else have a say.
Enjoy,
Regarding the number of tribes, two tribal names have thus far been released - Sook Jai and Chuay Gahn.
I also don't buy that the challenges will be brand new. In S2 and S3, they had a game where each tribe member had three plates hanging from a tree. Contestants were given slingshots, and they had to shoot down the other people's plates.
Come S4, they simply replaced the plates with coconuts and the slingshots with knives. But it was essentially the same game, you had to eliminate all of your opponents pieces. They can dress these games up any way they want, but I still think they're gonna be the same. In fact, I fully expect for them to eat something disgusting on day six.
