''Cracker'' is sometimes used with a negative racial overtone, but that's not its origin. It's the cow hunters, which is what we call them instead of cowboys. Of course, Georgia natives are called crackers, too. That may be a clue that the term wasn't restricted to cow hunters. My theory is that all those families creeping along dirt tracks through Georgia, Florida, Alabama in wagons pulled by oxen could crack the whip to keep 'em moving. Thus, ''Crackers.''
This was how the term "Cracker" was derived. My ancestors also helped settle Georgia and Florida and to be a Cracker is honorable. Only cultural bigots think otherwise, Iwo Jima. Thank you for your comments -- this Cracker appreciates it.
