Vanity Help identify this snake found in my bedroom! Please!!

light brown/grey snake, no obviously pointed head, skinny about 10-12 inches long, looks like a baby
how can i identify this quickly before I figure out what to do with it.

yellow stripes across the belly, or down the length of the body? What color eyes?

no markings at all except yellow stripes on belly
top is very light brown looks transparent? almost?

then really, do what was seriously suggested by a few.....you're probably within reach of the desk trashcan; flip it over the little bugger.
I'm in the Coachella Valley of SoKal - definite rattler country; I keep a hoe outside the door, for decapitation purposes, since snakies like to get up by walls and doorsteps if they've wandered away from their turf.

That sounds like a common garter snake to me, having used them for various purposes in my day... :0)

Maybe it's one of those Chinese snake fish. They're fleeing the East Coast. Too many anglers are on to them.

Ouch- sorry to have offended your delicate sensibilities! (wink). If it's THAT kind of snake, do as I did when building barbed -wire fence in the Southern Idaho desert- Whack of the head with your shovel, THEN look it up.

Once I found a small snake in the office computer printer (back in the dot matrix days). I thought it was a shielded cable until it ... moved. Told co-workers and was branded a drug addict until they saw it too. We called Department of Wildlife guys and they removed it and freed it. Made the papers, even.
Can you move your foot and back away, or would you rather continue to have Mr. Snake pinned?
