Sheesh, the lengths some useless people will go to to make their (non-mainstream) hobbies seem acceptable and normal.
The sixties are over and gone. Deal with it already!
To: gitmo
What is it that they say about a room full of monkeys and typewriters? Eventually they will write that the Bible promotes potheads?

A neo-Christian is one that claims to subscribe to the teachings of Jesus Christ, then gets on FR and preaches hatred against those who do not agree with their point of view
Hell, I always thought those were just plain old vanilla Christian fundamentalists.
Much like the neo-conservatives whom claim they are conservatives, but then spew socialistic drivel.
Got me again, around here they are known as new republicans.

Lets see. Marijuana use reflects the rights of man, the origin of religion, world peace and the cure of bunions. Sounds like snake oil.
To: Commander8
Who ever wrote that will be scared out his high when he stands before the Throne of Judgement and his name is not found in the Book of Life. So let me see if I understand your quote, you believe that anyone who smokes marijuana will be denied salvation, are dobies the unforgivable sin? If memory doesnt fail me, I kinda recollect back in Sunday school being taught that salvation was a free gift of God, that no man should boast, little did I know the only thing necessary to procure eternal life was NOT to smoke pot.

Assigning you to the "Undecided Camp" was meant to be a jest!
Yes, I see that 'gutter-mouthed bat-boy' was simply trolling.
Nevertheless, I find fascinating the baroque complexity of human culture. Who would have thought that the practice of MJ smoking was so ancient and wide-spread?
And written about! Kind of puts Anslinger and his ilk in perspective. ;^)
To: dighton
Bloody hell. If you want to smoke your weed, smoke it. Spare me the interminable sermon. If I were responsible for it, I would have. I never read anything that damn long myself.

What a load of crapolla!

I agree with your comments on human culture. I would quote King Solomon, though, in that "...there is nothing new under the sun." I think you'll find that mankind has always looked for ways to "get happy". I mean, for gosh sakes, what about those people who lick those toads that secrete an hallucinogenic fluid? Who was the first guy that said, "Hey, I think I'll lick this toad. Maybe I can get a buzz going!"
I don't know that all the assertions of this article as to when MJ was first smoked have any validity (trying to draw a connection between Jesus first public miracle at the wedding feast in Cana and canabis being a derivative of Cana is laughable) but I would venture to say that there was probably some ancient guy who was the first "Lone Stoner" if he happened to stumble across some hemp! LOL!
By the way, I do like your screen name. Shows you're not some wishy-washy fence-sitter, eh?

"There is nothing new under the sun."
Okay, we've agreed so far. ;^)
I'm in favor of getting the government out of the 'dope' business, however.
It's not good for America or its Constitution.
"Vanity, all is vanity."
Maybe we can agree on that, too. ;^)
To: headsonpikes
I'm in favor of getting the government out of a lot of things, not just the dope business. But I must go one step further; I'm in favor of everyone getting out of the dope business (for reasons you can probably guess, but that I won't go into at this time).

Lets see here, according to you, anything that involves clouds, fire, plants, odors, clothing made of plants, visions, etc, is instantly attributed to Marijuana.
You see what you want to see.
There are about 781516468 or so plants around that can be burned to produce one or several effects. Tobacco, Potpori (spelled wrong), opium, coca, eucalyptis, and of course Marijuana. Inscent sticks sold in the mall for modern Buddist or whoever come several scents. So do candle scents. Marijuana may have been used, but of course may have not.
As for fire, it is used for smoking Marijuana. And for cooking, and in battle, and for making tools/weapons, and for signaling, and for light, and 46516874 other purposes.
As for God. He appears as a pillar of smoke and of fire, but it doesn't matter to when he appears as Jesus. Burning inscence to God doesn't matter anymore. Nowhere in the Bible does it say anything about smoking pot to somehow better your spirituality. If weed was so important to a Christian, it would be.
Shouldn't take an hour to read that.

Lets see here, according to youI didn't write the article, so it isn't according to me. The article was written by some obscure Coptic demonination. I hold no such beliefs. It was a slow day on FR and I thought this article would stir things up a bit (pot threads seem to do that). In other words, I was trolling.
However, I do find it interesting that the "evil weed" was used during both old and new testament times, yet not a word of it is mentioned in the bible, either pro or con. Instead, The Lord focuses on alcohol. I take this to mean it was a non-issue to G*d or Jesus and the holier than thou crowd is doing nothing but putting words into His mouth. I'm sure you'll disagree, but hey, that's life in America.
Take what you like from it. Shoot, you can print it and use it for toilet paper for all I care.
If weed was so important to a Christian, it would be.
Well it obviously is for this Christian demonination. Whether or not they are correct is between them and G*d, just as it will be with any other Christian demonination. Since every Christian demonination thinks every other Christian demonination is going to hell, these guys should fit in just perfect.

Here is the second verse, also, so you get the better context of the scripture...
10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.
