Posted on 07/27/2002 10:00:40 PM PDT by Jolly Green

Time Line
06/05/01 Tuesday Ricci steals items from the Smart home while he is employed there as a handyman. Ricci is charged in July of 2002 of 1 count of theft related to the Smart incident.
05/30/02 Thursday ~ Ricci returns to pick up his Jeep at the auto repair shop before the shop has a chance to fully fix it He tells the repairman that it needed for an emergency.
06/04/02 Tuesday ~ Ricci is at work from about 9am to 5:30pm
~ Ricci claims he spends the evening with friends
06/05/02 Wednesday ~ 1:05am - 2 cars are spotted on the SLC Shriner's Hospital Parking Lot by a hospital security guard, two blocks from the Smart residence
~ 1:30am (approx) - Elizabeth is kidnapped from her home
~ 1:30am - Ricci claims to be in bed asleep with his with wife.
~ Ricci is scheduled to be off work all day today.
~ 7:21am - Rachel/Amber alert is issued and national media is involved.
~ 8:30am - Ricci and his neighbor talk about the kidnapping of Elizabeth, Ricci seems to know too much information about it.
~ Sometime during this day Ricci is visited by police in regards to Elizabeth's kidnapping as reported by Angela Ricci (Richard A. Ricci's Wife which is an ex-convict herself)
~ Ricci is seen by his neighbor digging a hole by his (Ricci's) trailer early in the morning. (heard the neighbor say this on TV)
06/06/02 Thursday ~ Ricci is scheduled to work from 9am to 5:30pm today, but instead works from 10:30am to 7:00pm
~ Police talk to Ricci this day about the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping. (The media is reporting this, so it could be wrong)
06/08/02 Saturday ~ Ricci returns the Jeep to the repair shop to get it fixed. The Jeep is muddy and the repair shop owner sees Ricci remove seat covers from the back of the jeep and place them into a plastic garbage bag that already contains other stuff in it. Also the repair shop owner said a muddy post hole digger was in the back of the Jeep, Ricci removes this also. Ricci has a man waiting across the street to give him a ride. Ricci takes the plastic bag and contents along with the post hole digger with him. Also there is 500 to 1000 extra miles on the Jeep since Ricci picked it up on May 30th, 2002.
06/14/02 Friday ~ Ricci is taken into custody for a parole violation, this being drinking while on parole and association with other ex-cons.
07/11/02 Thursday Formal charges are filed against Ricci (2 counts of theft & 1 count of burglary) on the theft & burglary of the Smart neighbors home which occurred in April 2001, and 1 more count of theft for stealing from the Smart home on June 6th, 2001.
Special thanks to Brigette for starting this timeline.

Neenah and Bella are applying the axiom that if you torture the evidence long enough it will eventually confess to anything. And never, never let facts get in the way of a good story!

By the way, do you know what the difference is between a fairy tail and a Neenah post? One of them starts 'Once upon a time' and the other starts 'WHAT DO I KNOW SO FAR?'.

...Before the cops honed in on Ricci, whom did YOU believe could have done this?

Before the cops honed in on Ricci I thought exactly what I do today, it was the 5'8" athletic fellow, dark hair, tan demin jacket, white baseball cap, drives a white or silver Honda, seen by the milkman, on convenience store security video near Smart home minutes before the kidnapping, 911 call phoned in on him for suspicious activity in Shriners Hospital parking lot just before the kidnapping, and seen by searcher a few days after the kidnapping. I just wonder why they won't tell us who it is or at least release a sketch of him.

"....but since Ed seems to do things outside the control of the police, why not tell what they were?

Exactly..and since they're brazen enough to do this, hopefully, the authorities are watching every move made. I just have that "gut" feeling from day one that they do KNOW who's involved. I've never seen anything like this before, never. Also, didn't they say they had DNA? Who does it belong to?

Because it's someone the family KNOWS very well, and they're going to UPSET when they learn of this, and this is going to cause a major stir in SLC. I feel sorry for them!

That's ludicrous. If Ed Smart knew who the kidnapper is he wouldn't be having to do his own investigation around the SLCPD/FBI.

Obviously SLCPD/FBI knows who the kidnapper is. If it's because they don't have enough evidence to bring charges yet, don't you think they should tell Ed who it is so he doesn't have to continue trying to win his own ball game figuring it out. Unless LE has a more sinister reason for witholding the kidnapper's identity. The line that there will be no arrest until Elizabeth or her body are are found is rather ominous to me and begs the question - why?

Has to now drive back to his Trailer. Not knowing where he buried the girl, if it is farther away from the Smart home or closer to his Trailer Park. Why would he not know where he buried the girl? That makes no sense

No it doesn't...let me disect it...what I meant should have read like this.....

He has now, to drive back to his trailer. We do not know where he buried the girl, if it is beyond the Smart home farther away, or closer to the Trailer Park.

The rest is my thoughts against your thoughts.

He didn't bury her that night, he buried her in a swampy area of white mud on Jun 8.

I think they're watching the family in action to decide whether they honestly don't know, or, are sincere, and I think they're watching to see how long before this person screws up and falls to his knees. Don't forget the family has been doing things without the cops knowledge, and the family has been saying they're innocent,etc..remember the interview when Tom said they have "issues" etc. they've ripped their family apart. Also, Tom's loose lips, out of context lines, cost him a few missed sessions on tv, bet the family wasn't happy. Plus, it's clear as ever, as many of us agree, that Lois' body language when near her hubby, also says something..I watched online an interview Ed and Lois were sitting next to each other, Ed had his arm around the back of Lois' chair, not around her...I found that interesting. What supposed kidnapping have you ever seen a family act like this one?

Of course we don't know . We don't even know IF he was the kidnapper, if he killed her, If someone else has her, killed her..where her body is..where her alive person is...nothing. What I was saying is ..we don't know if he buried her, if he killed her and was the perp...far beyond the Smarts or closer to the Trailer Park...this has to do with THE TIMELINE !!

That is the whole crux of my post...THE TIMELINE. If he had to do ALLLLL of that between about 2 and 6:00 a.m. he would have alot to do !

Most likely didn't kill her until much later, since at the time of the abduction he thought they could get a huge ransom. It was only after massive publicity, that he decided the risk was too high.

I think your analysis makes the most sense thus far. Tell me what your opinion is, Why is the solving of this case taking so long?

"Obviously" is not a word to be used when speculating. And that's about all we can do without real evidence.

Think on this one: IF Elizabeth's abductor took her into the bathroom, shut the door, & spoke softly, what could have been the reason? Maybe the man had waited around so long, he needed to relieve himself. Possibly (and I don't think anybody has mentioned this), the kidnapper wanted Elizabeth to take some items she would need - you know, personal, feminine necessities.

This COULD be the reason the Smarts have not revealed what is missing.

If this is the case it would explain some of the statements the family has made and their belief that she is still alive.
