So it's like this: the Lovely Lisa assigned me to make a CD of music for our reception, as we'll be tying the knot this coming Saturday. I've spent the past day or so going through the grooveyard of my MP3 collection and there's some potential material there, but I'm probably overlooking a lot of good stuff.
Here's a sample of what I've got so far:
"I've Got You Babe" (Sonny and Cher)
"Something" (the Beatles)
"Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash)
"Tequila" (whoever made that)
"Istanbul" (They Might Be Giants)
"Pretty Woman" (Roy Orbison)
"Devil Went Down To Georgia" (Charlie Daniels... appropriate since we'll be getting married in Georgia ;-)
Needs to be a good mix of romantic/touching and party/humorous, dig?

When AshfieldK and I got married our song was "Dream a Little Dream," the Mama Cass version. After 11 years together its still a favorite.
BTW, Istanbul is a great song.

There is something else VERY cool we're going to use (you'll see :-)
To: Darth Sidious
Bryan White and Shania Twain/From this Moment On
LeeAnn Rimes/I Need You
The Police/Every Breath You Take
From the Zorro soundtrack, that "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You" song
If you're my age (20's), Madonna's "Vogue" is a good dance song
Dog's Eye View/Would You Be Willing?
Smashing Pumpkins/Beautiful
Fun 80's and 90's music that everyone knows and can sing/dance along to
Garth Brooks/Shameless
That's just the start of my own personal wedding reception song list, for the wedding I daydream about wayyyy too much. It's a side effect of dating a commitmentphobe. :)

Oh, and "I'm Too Sexy" and "Baby Got Back" for the silly singalong factor...also La Bamba, and if you've the stomach for it, the Macarena. And a good, current dance song is "Whenever, Wherever" by Shakira.

The soloist sang Wind Beneath My Wings as I was escorted down the aisle at my son's wedding. Another son had the soloist do The Rose, since that is my name. I won't know what song my last son has in store for me until July 26. He is getting married near Albany and my family will travel there from Ohio and other parts. My kids are macho, cool guys who love their Momma!!! I danced with my oldest son to Momma by In Sync???? (I'm not sure who did it, but I like it)!

Real men love their mommas...for sure. Your post made me smile. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE UPCOMING WEDDING.

I recommend
Don't Get Around Much Anymore by Willie Nelson.
It is also a good choice for funeral receptions.

,,, I got married on Feb 2nd of this year. We made the grand entrance splash with a track called "Suzie and Jack", composed by Dave Grusin. Big sound. It's from the soundtrack of the movie "The fabulous Baker boys".
GRP Records [GRD-2002]
Have a great day and best wishes for a wonderful and happy future together.

Here's how it happened to Lisa. From beneath the chair next to the sofa, I gently pulled the wood bowl, which had been filled with warm water just after Lisa pulled into the driveway. A towel was also hidden with it. And in the softness of candlelight, with Gods love all around and between us, I gently untied her boots, removed them and her socks, lowered her feet into the warm water and washed them.
We couldnt take our eyes from each other, in that moment. It was so simple an act, and yet the most loving we had ever known in our lives. There was a connectedness there, my hands working the desire of my heart: "I long to serve you with all my being, to serve Christ and to serve you". Lisas face was so beautiful, her smile so tender and loving... this was the girl Id waited all my life for, and she so understood and accepted what it was I was asking of her, what God was drawing us into.
Look up the words "Class Act" in the dictionary, and you'll find a picture of Darth Sidious. :-)
