Well part of the problem is that in a forum like this where people can post somewhat anonymously, people feel free to say things that they would never say in polite company. I am guilty of that sometimes myself. Once in a while, I'll come across an old post of mine and I'll say to myself "I posted that!" I think sometimes that the best improvement that could be made to Free Republic would be the ability to go back and remove your own posts. Because things are often said in the heat of the moment and with a typing speed of 65wpm or higher, sometimes my keyboard runs ahead of my brain!

BTW, I type like a secretary because I took two years of typing in high school in an unsuccessful attempt to pick up girls. I was one of only two or three boys in the class and man, did I ever take flack from my classmates for being in typing class. I guess all the girls in class must have thought we were gay or something too. But I do like to type and got straight "A"s both years, which helped to push my GPA up.

I agree. It has been posted many times that we are all just words on a screen and not real people. I think some people agree with that, it takes away the guilt of being nasty to others.

Instead of being nasty I keep a little list of who is naughty and nice and who I don't respond to. My time is precious and I do not suffer fools gladly.

On the other hand I have met some of the most fascinating people here. People who I greatly admire and who I have a great deal in common with. I travel the country and in my travels have also met selected Freepers and have been very happy to have them as friends. As I said early, this is a cross section of society, but since most of us have like values, I expect a little higher dialogue.

But then again it is Saturday night, and since I am no longer allowed to post threads like " What is your pirate name", this will have to do.
