We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]
Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
WorldCom discovered for the entirety of 2001 and the first quarter of 2002, its CFO was overreporting earnings - to the total tune over the period of nearly $4 billion. Arthur Andersen was the accounting firm; they claim their work was in compliance with SEC standards and that it was WorldCom's CFO that was withholding data from them. The Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation. A preliminary search of the Internet has not, so far, turned up any connections with the previous Administration. Give it time.
Martha Stewart is now facing a wider investigation into her stock dealings. She says she wants "to concentrate on [her] salad."
The FBI searched a home near Ft. Ditrick. The home belonged to a scientist with access to anthrax.

That ain't right!
You are just too good GC6!! It's only 74 here, with humidity at 86%.
Looks like another bad day on Wall sTreet ahead...
London "an Al-Qaeda intelligence centre" from the Guardian/UK
AMERICAS WAR ON TERROR Day 289
The news as reported in The Washington Times:
[Note All links go to The Washington Times website.]
1. The Defense Department says it needs a full-time intelligence czar for the War on Terror; Congress has been asked to authorize an Undersecretary for Defense for Intelligence.
[Very much needed, indeed.]
Pentagon wants intelligence czar
2. The Europeans and the UN side with Arafat, saying President Bush should never have called for his ouster.
[So our so-called allies have opted to side with the enemy in the War on Terror? I hope they dont expect too much from the United States in return.]
Europeans, U.N. hit Bush on call for Arafat ouster
3. The Washington Times has been bringing us news and views for 20 years.
[Apparently this is The Washington Times version of The Never Ending Story.]
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS: The Washington Times
4. Lawmakers from both parties say it is all right for a 4-H chapter in West Virginia to use American Indian names and symbols.
[Even the demonflops? I guess some items of political correctness are even too much for them to bear. Or maybe they are particularly sensitive because of the approaching election?]
Indian names at 4-H Club backed
5. Many schools in the United States end up being nothing more than operations to, essentially, sell visas as a means of access to the country.
[Oh, wonderful. Message to INS: Major security breach here! And, amazing, this report was generated by a professor at Harvard.]
U.S. schools act as visa-for-sale stores, study says
6. The potential loss of AMTRAK is already being described as a travesty to traffic in the Northeast, if it were to occur.
[Well, yet another testament to the planning by liberal do-gooders. Instead of focusing on holistic solutions for urban and suburban transportation, planners universally focused on mass-transit answers, and failed to address total amount of road space. Now it is coming back in spades.]
Amtrak loss a travesty for traffic
7. A Saudi man has been accused of taking 50 English proficiency exams for foreigners so these student visa holders could stay in the country, illegally of course.
[Another hit on Saudi Arabia. We need to seriously reexamine our attitude toward that Nation.]
Saudi accused of taking English tests for illegals
8. US bachelors do not consider getting married a priority, according to a new study. The new study concludes this to be so because men find easy availability of sex outside of marriage.
[Theres probably more than a little truth to that. Yet another issue caused by the liberals new society.]
Wedded bliss not a priority for U.S. bachelors
We shall not rest until we have cut a swath 60-miles wide through the entire left - taking all that is before us with us as we go. We shall leave nothing to the enemy that may be of value to him. We shall show him that he may count on nothing and will be able to keep nothing, not his spirit, not his soul, not that upon which he shall feed. We shall not cease until the moment we have rent through their entire land and have arrived at the sea, with our glorious victory upon us.

Raven - I responded over there already! Good article...Capitalism is without doubt the best system, but it must be tempered with a moral/ethical/religious standards.
What we're seeing in these corporation scandals shows that all too clearly.
b4 - Still think there'll be a rate increase by the Fed at the end of the summer? Chances are about nil, it looks like to me...
On those weekdays I go to the office, I am up at 4:45 AM ET, thank you very much.

Another name that has universally showed up in major-league bad news since January 20, 2001, has been UOx42.
I believe to my very core he is somehow attached to the WorldCom issue in some manner, shape, or form.
