FULLERTON, Calif. -- The parents of a 21-year-old California woman allegedly chained their daughter spread-eagle on her bed so she wouldn't go out with her married boyfriend.
David Mata and his wife Guadalupe were arrested at their apartment Sunday night. They have been booked for investigation of false imprisonment, assault and battery, and making criminal threats. Bail is set at $25,000.
Lt. Danny Becerra said the couple told police they used the 30-pound chains and two large gate locks to pin Giovana Mata down and prevent her from going out.
The couple allegedly threatened their daughter and the woman called 911 for help. Becerra said her parents pushed her onto the bed after the phone call.

The "spead-eagle" detail in the headline is a bit over the top.
The married man needs to be chained face down over an anthill.

By the time a child is 21, they've either figured some stuff out, or they never will. Every adult woman should know that dating a married man is stupid, but plenty of women still do it.
Maybe they should have gone after him instead. Go to his home and tell his wife. Show up where he works and make a scene about him being a married man going out with a 21 year old woman and you want it to stop. Keep hassling and embarassing him. In other words make him realize that dating the 21 year old is more trouble than it is worth.

This would either end the affair or end the marriage. Problem solved.

There are many people who have remained married for some financial reason, such as one's preexisting medical condition being covered on the other's health insurance, that have not lived together in years, and don't intend to.

What a narrow view. It's true, I hold a narrow (i.e. conservative) view of marriage. Either you are true to your mate or you are not. If not, the marriage is a sham. They should just form a health-care co-op if it's all about the benes, because, just as when it's just about the sex, it makes a mockery of a sacred institution.

Yes, they chained their grown (past her majority) daughter to a bed so that she would not commit adultry with a married man. So like the drug warriors who want to use law to save people from what they think is an immoral act.
