MANCHESTER, Conn. -- A local man accused of shooting a cat with a bow and arrow has been granted a special form of probation.
Superior Court Judge Jorge A. Simon also ordered 22-year-old Jesse Reimann to do 50 hours of community service with the Connecticut Humane Society, make a $500 contribution to the society and pay $500 toward the cat's veterinarian bills.
Reimann is in an accelerated rehabilitation program for six months. If he successfully completes the program, a cruelty to animals charge against him can be dismissed.
Reimann was charged with cruelty to animals for shooting his neighbor's cat with an arrow Feb. 28. The black-and-white cat, named Lucky Jr., showed up at the home of his owner, Lisa Negedly, the day after the incident, with a foot-long arrow sticking out of its chest. Negedly said her cat's veterinarian thinks the cat was initially pinned to the ground by the arrow, which didn't pierce any major organs or arteries.
The cat has made a full recovery.
Reimann refused comment, and his lawyer could not be reached.

And now, they will have to add "protruding arrow" to that old joke:
LOST: Cat with 3 legs, blind in left eye, missing right ear, tail broken and recently castrated. Answers to the name "Lucky, Jr".

The black-and-white cat, named Lucky Jr., Yeah, "lucky" it wasn't a .40 hydra-shock.

In all seriousness, this sounds bad.
If it was a problem cat, fine - but try to work it out with the neighbor and animal control. If to no avail, I don't have a problem with taking the cat out - but do the job properly.

What makes you think this kid shot the cat because it might have been a problem? 99% of the time...these stupid kids do it for fun because people like you tell your kids that it's "OK" as long as the cat is "A PROBLEM."
You need animal sensitivity classes.

Note operative word from my original post "if."
What would you do with a neighbor's cat who was damaging your property? Eating goldfish out of your pond?

WHAT? You are cruel. Probably less so than you might think.
It is the responsibility of the cat owner to keep it from being a nuisance or damager of property to those around it. If the owner neglects said responsibility, and animal control is unresponsive, what's a property owner to do?

what's a property owner to do?Not shoot with an arrow that's for sure.

Well...if my neighbors cat was trying to get my goldfishies out of my pond...I would put up a put a fence or some cactuses or something around it. I wouldn't even consider harming the cat...on the other hand....a dog is not supposed to be wandering.....cats can.....it's their God given right..(did you ever see a sign saying "No Cats allowed on the Beach)??.....so I would talk to the owner of the dog and if that didn't help, then I'd call the dog catcher on him. >^..^<

Not shoot with an arrow that's for sure. LOL!! "Madam would prefer a 12 ga., perhaps?" LOL
IF the cat had been a problem, and IF there was no other viable alternative, I can understand the use of a crossbow or bow and arrow. Disharging a firearm might be illegal where this guy lives, or maybe he wouldn't want to atttract too much attention. But it is cruelty to let it suffer.
If on the other hand, this kid was simply up to mischief, particularly since the cat is someone's pet, he should be severely fined.

I bring up the goldfish because my in-laws are in that very situation right now.
They can't call animal control, because the local animal rescue house is right down the street - in fact, that's where the cats are coming from!
Building a fence kind of defeats the purpose of having a fish pond, and I've yet to see a fence that was cat proof!

Let the cat play with the goldfish..what's the harm? He's not going to catch it anyway. Poor cats. Let them have a little fun.

7 dead goldfish later....
Ms. girl, there aren't many living creatures smaller than 20 lb that a cat cannot destroy at will. I may not particularly like cats, but I do have to admire their proficiency as hunters.
Reminds me of a program I saw about feral cats in Australia. It appears that the wild cat population has gotten to the point where they are thriving. Watching this documentary on these allegedly "domesticated" animals was very enlightening.
As expected, they "play" with their food until it's dead. Paw, paw - watch it run away - pounce! Paw, paw - repeat until it stops moving. It was comical, but sort of scary at the same time.

I think your inlaws are buying stupid goldfish..
.seriously...a 20lb cat? That's HUGE...I have one thats 14lbs and there is no way he's going to catch a fish in water. Have your inlaws get their own cat ....(s)he'll watch HIS pond.
PS...why do you call yourself Palmetto? Do you look like a big bug?

No....I meant cats can pretty much have their way with animals smaller than 20 lbs.

Yep. Here's me:

Actually, I'm from The Palmetto State

Or not.

I have had to "euthenize" a number cats in my life, but I have never done it with a bow and arrow. And yes, I used a 12 gauge shot gun.
