Word For The Day, Friday, 6/21/02
The Verbivores | 6/21/02 | Teacher

Posted on 06/21/2002 6:57:50 AM PDT by RikaStrom

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

taction \tak-shun\, noun:

1. The act of touching; contact.
2. The act of touching; touch; contact; tangency

Etymology: Latin taction-, tactio, from tangere. Date: circa 1623.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School! Thank Goodness, It’s Finally FRIDAY!!!

Here is my example with WFTD.

"Vehicles continually drive onto commercial farms with letters from the DA, Rural District Councils, and provincial wardens and the occupants shoot animals at will, first for Independence celebrations, then to feed the militia and then just to commercialise and capitalise on the lack of the rule of law in the country," he said.

"We report vehicle poaching to the police complete with government registration numbers and they say, 'it's political, there is nothing we can do about it'." (snip)

He questioned why government and in particular the Department of National Parks and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism had not stopped or condemned such practices in writing so that all law enforcement agencies could react positively.

Zimbabwe is imploding. They government is a corrupt, murdering, thieving entity of holier-than-thou racists. They are starving their people, murdering others, refusing to allow farmers to farm… gee what a concept. Allow the farmers to farm and you may just get crops that can feed your hungry, but no, that’s illegal now. And into this nightmare we hear news that the wild game is being destroyed.

I’m sure that some of the poachers are doing it to sell parts and pelts and make some money, although that DOES NOT justify the practice. Others, I’m sure, are doing to feed their families. For the poachers that are selling parts and pelts, I have nothing but condemnation, but for those that are starving… well wild game… is meat. These people are starving and their useless government is denying them the ability to feed themselves, so my opinion here is simple… I’m sorry to see some wonderful animals being slaughtered, but if it comes down to the taction of my belly to my backbone, I’m going to kill an animal. /survival mode

first? Top 10?

It's Friday and it's summer as of 0934 EDT. Flounder anyone? Would that make it a fish fry day?

Tough word teach.. I keep wanting to use it as a verb rather than a noun.

Good Morning All,

It looks like our very own tat icon, xsmommy wandered into the classroom right behind me. Taction.

If you let your tires go bald, you won't get any taction. The same goes for your head.

Near frantic Dems throw hissy fit
When Pubbies reply tat for tit.
Ideas no traction,
They're out of taction.
Now voters, we must act on it.
