If ever there was a time when the Senior Tour was kicking butt in the ratings it was when Dr. Gil Morgan and Hale Irwin were the only ones winning for weeks on end. They battled eachother week in and week out.

I think that 3 way teams skins match I mentioned very early in the thread showed why it would happen. The seniors were A: better golfers and B: just more interesting to watch. Also because the senior tour had so many guys from the glory days of the 60s and 70s they had name recognition. With Gil and Hale and Jack and Arny and Lee and Chi Chi, meanwhile the PGA tour had... you see my point. Remember the senior tour by and large got invented to find a way to keep these guys around even though they were past their prime and couldn't necessarily compete with the younger kids on a weekly basis anymore. I think it was just supposed to tide them over until the next big names showed up, what nobody knew at the time was how long that wait would be.
