Well, it's been 4 years since I first found Free Republic. I have always felt like I belonged here and have really enjoyed the banter back and forth between us members. I am afraid all this is now over. I am really suprised and shocked at it's suddenness. Before I leave I want to thank a freeper from Michigan who sent me a DVD player last year to give to my kids for Christmas. You reaffirmed my faith in humanity.
I know this thread will be deleted before many people get to read it, but I just can't go without saying a final word. Every since 911 the 'vibe' here at FR has been decidedly hostile. I guess it was a matter of time before the newbie moderator got around to weeding me out for my sometimes unpopular views. So I join the ranks of A+Bert and so many others who gave FR a interesting flavor. I will miss coming here 20 times a day and keeping up on things. But without posting priviledges there is just no point. I must go find another conservative group to try to be a part of.
In the future, when a freeper who has been a loyal member since August 1998 crosses the line, how about a note instead of banning? Would that have been too much? I may have gotten out of line, how is beyond me, but if such a tresspass would have been pointed out I would gladly have refrained from doing so again. It is just not right to just ban an account with no explaination. Especially when the freeper has been here 4 years. I have no idea what I am going to do with my days now that I no longer have FR. Well, I guess I have said my part. It is a sad day when one has to leave family and friends. I feel like some of you were just that. But apparently I am no longer wanted around here. I bid my good day to you all and hope that karma pays it's respects to those who do injustice.
Now that makes a lot of sense to me. I told some liberal who was worried about whether or not we had declared war that I would have my lawyer contact Mr Bin Laden's lawyer...and since these guys (AlQaeda) have targeted all of us I suggest a class action suit...
I try not to waste too much time responding to those types.
I haven't seen any case where he even seems to go beyond his congressional mandate.
I actually think it's a little too broad an authority:
"all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons,"
that "aided or harbored" part could could be applied to any one or nation who had almost anything to do with al Queda.
But that's better than not enough authority- which is what I had expected out of the congress.
If a "state of war existed WITHOUT Congress' affirmation", why did President Jefferson have to get their permission to prosecute the War?
If a State of War already exists, the President is already Commander-in-Chief. So the fact of a distinct Congressional Affirmation of War militates against this Hamiltonian interpretation.
All of which said... Formal "War" has its virtues.
You clean up the "detainees-POWs" question.
You have the potential to clean up the "Traitor-Combatant" question (though I still have not an answer to this question).
Black-and-White is good. This "gray area" stuff is not friendly to Strict Constitutionalism.
I need my head checked, or you people do.
Hiding behind typos?
Exactly. We would not be posting here probably either. I know if I was in charge of a police state, I would put myself in prison for what I've written on Free Republic.
I'm not sure they have been cut. Some people are saying they have, and some people are saying they haven't. We all need to watch and make sure they aren't,or that corrections are made if they were. I know he was held for a period of maybe 30 days without anybody knowing, but that COULD have been legal considering the circumstances. I'm not a lawyer and I don't know for sure either way.
Has Padilla received the due process he is entitled to as a enemy combatant? or, do you deny the Feds the right to call him that?
This is a little confusing, but I think they are holding him as a traitor who was ALSO a enemy combatant. Judging from what has been reported,I agree with this. He is both, and if found guilty, there should be a tree or a firing squad in his future. As a enemy combatant he would qualify for release after the "war" is declared ended, but as a traitor he doesn't get this consideration. It should be the death of him.
Oh, there's still a lot of us out here. I'm just seeing where the terrorist apologists are going with today's spin. They've almost convinced me that we should give Jihad Jonny and "ol' what's his name this week" Padilla a medal and pension, probably give them a one time award of, say, 5 million dollars for their confinement. BUT notice I said "almost" not "convinced" me.
I'm sure wasfree is already back on, lurking for now, but registered.
Oh well, it's bed time. C U'all tomorrow. zip
WHERE did I ever say this? You made the whole thing up. Admit it.
Yes,he was. Chances are he was a member of the big Chicago gang named the "something"(Gangster?) Disciples. They have even had members on the Chicago PD. Mostly black and spanish-speakers,and a LOT of jailhouse conversions to Islam.
