"The Two Towers" are getting some last-minute renovations.
Fox News reports that director Peter Jackson has summoned most of the cast of "Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers" back to New Zealand to re-shoot scenes for the film, which finished principal shooting months ago, and was thought to be ready for release.
Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood, Liv Tyler and Ian McKellen are among those heading back to New Zealand for the additional work. Fox said the rumoured re-shoots will include rejigged combat sequences and new love scenes between Mortensen and Tyler.
Jackson filmed all three "Lord Of The Rings" films simultaneously, and was editing "Towers" last year when the first instalment, "Fellowship Of The Ring," was in release.
Fox said it is believed Jackson got some new ideas about how to enhance the second film after he saw the audience reaction to the first one.
New Line, which is producing the trilogy, told Fox News that the re-shoots are minor elements, such as new close-ups. But Fox quoted one source who claimed Jackson's desire to fiddle with "The Two Towers" was inspired by the success of "Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones."
Hey Hair, whats the countdown on TTT?
But my favorite sub-movies are Hunt For Red October and Das Boot. Oh, and Run Silent Run Deep.
It's gettin closer and closer...
Around 2 months till the offical DVD release, then about 3 months after that it's the Extended Edition FOTR DVD and in the same month the TTT Soundtrack will be released, and by the end of Nov the first reviews of TTT will start popping up.
Deja vu all over again :-)
I don't think I've ever seen 'Run Silent'..(heading to Netflix), but 'Red October' and 'Das Boot' are personal favorites. Have you seen the Director's Cut of 'Das Boot'? It is great listening to the commentary by Wolfgang Petersen. Turns out that when they went back into the studio to dub the voices for the English version, it was the first time Jurgen Prochnow had EVER spoken English for a movie before! Is that wild? I love listening to the commentaries on DVDs cause you can find out all sorts of useless, but interesting, trivia!
One of the most entertaining director's commentaries I've heard was Bonnie Hunt's on the movie 'Return to Me' along with her writing partner. It was fun!
Sure, I understand that Arwen and Aragorn really get it on! HOT! HOT! HOT! (Grabbing a pint and heading out the door at a full run!!)
Sure you do, just a little Friday silliness!
But Fox quoted one source who claimed Jackson's desire to fiddle with "The Two Towers" was inspired by the success of "Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones."
Ummm....yeah, right....I believe every "anonymous" source's "claims" don't you? I think Fox doesn't particularly like LOTR anyway, so I'm not surprised they'd print this, but how pathetic! They must have been very hard up for entertainment news this week....either that or some one got a really nice lunch from Mr. Lucas.... Or perhaps there are a few disgruntled SW fanatics who just can't handle the truth.... ;)
BTW, Boxofficemojo.com has a chart that shows how AOTC may not be able to catch up to FOTR's box office take...I don't think Mr. Jackson is concerned AT ALL.... And these reshoots had been scheduled before AOTC was even close to release. I mean, this article is just SO WRONG, it's hard to even know where to start in debunking it...

PS: Sorry I was late, Hair, got here as soon as I could... ;)
Well thanks for stopping by! Better late than never!
I do get a little tired of Hollywood atttacking older white males for every vil in the world (latest was the change in the nuclear attack from Clancy's Islamic villains to white Christian extremists).
But the whole premis of a crazed catain in Crimson Tide not stopped by other crew mwmbers was just da*ned WRONG. I've been there - US Navy submariners don't act that way.
Beside, if you want to stop a missile launch, just trip the 400 cycle power supply breakers - No SINNS, no 400 Hz power, no computers, no satellite fixes, no gyro compass, no launch codes, no radios, no GPS quick fix, ..... no sonar, no radar, no navigation computers, no fire control consoles. Takes 1 second while you're standing inthe passageway near the 400 cycle sets.
You could trip a few other breakers too just to make things interesting: DC battery cut-out breaker forward by the battery compt would cause lots of problems if there were a scram. Pull fuses to the diesel, then quietly trip a few other breakers.
Or just scramble to safe setting on the lock.
I was thinking about this the other day, how painstakingly accurate the Harry Potter film of the first book was last year. In fact, the only criticism about it that I heard was that it was TOO much exactly like the book, there wasn't really anything new or surprising.
Now, I know that the Conventional Wisdom has been that you just couldn't film "Rings" that way, but I now think that's hogwash. Harry Potter is every bit as detailed and exacting as the Tolkien works (please, no stupid flames, I'm talking about TECHNICALLY; don't let's get into some dumb-*ss debate over the relative artistic merits). I now wish they'd been more accurate with "Fellowship."
Sorry, but the thing with Arwen taking Frodo across the river still chaps my bum.
I don't know about this one in particular, but many soundtrack CD's are often mastered or even released before the movie is fully edited; sometimes new music is needed and is composed and recorded for the movie even though the CD has already been produced. Many 'cast recordings' of theatrical productions differ from the actual show for the same reason.
Maybe I'm unusually dense, but when I first read the book I remember being surprised when Arwen showed up in ROTK. OTOH, I was in second grade, so a lot of things probably got by me.
