Does anyone have a link to the Federal Airport screeners positions? (I'm ready to look into anything). I wrote to the closest airport to me and they told me this:
Department of Airport job listings are handled by the Palm Beach County Personnel Department. You can find their website using a link from the Palm Beach County web page at www.pbcgov.com. This site lists all jobs currently advertised with Palm Beach County, including any Department of Airport positions.
All other companies (including the airlines) handle their job availability individually. You will have to check with each of them separately. Security is currently handled by either the county Sheriff, or contracted by the airlines. You will need to contact them for job information
Well...I went all around that website and found no airport screeners jobs. Aren't they hiring for this?? I looked all over the sheriffs website..couldnt find anything....and I don't understand her second suggestion. DOes she mean look at Delta's web page? Any ideas?
PS...I looked into a job on the sheriffs page....a clerk position. Did you know to be considered for a job...you fill out this 11 page application...then you send that in and they will call you if you qualify. Then if you do, you fill out an 18 page application....go take typing and spelling tests, then go through an oral interview of 3 people...then take a polygraph test...cannot have used drugs int he past 10 years...no traffic violations...but what get me is this....you must submit transcripts from all your colleges and high schools, make copies of all your diplomas, all your marriage licenses, your drivers history records, a copy of your social security card... etc etc!! I was so aggravated I even called and asked them if a clerk position required all of that. They said 'yep'. A polygraph?? Jeez

I read somewhere that employers fill 10% of job vacancies thru the job web sites, so if you look for a job, spend only 10% of your time on job sites. Networking is where its at!

What might be a great idea now is if you posted a link to this thread on the Texas state message board ... I'm not real sure where that message board is. (Since the new layout of FR, I'm still trying to track down stuff here).

I have a job, but I've relied on freelance jobs to make ends meet. Since the dot-bomb economy started, they've been hard to come by. I can do almost anything you care to name, but my most salable skill is in database design and application programming with Microsoft Access. I've done client/server stuff with Access or Visual Basic front ends, and I've also done backend stuff with DB2 and SQL Server. Email me at sterner@sterner.hep.upenn.edu_NO_SPAM (without the "_NO_SPAM" at the end) if interested.

Yep, I've been thinking about the same thing. I'm a seasonal employee at H&R Block, and things dry up right around April 15. I sure would like something a bit steadier. Trouble is, I didn't quite finish my BS is mechanical engineering all those years ago, and the lack of a sheepskin stymies me.

That's where Chadmoore had it's corp offices. Nextel bought them out frequencies and all. All the technical folks were dumped. Nextel is being allowed by the FCC to buy up and sit on these radio frequencies. Allowed to eliminate an entire industry. I can see cell phones working well on construction sites!

alot of the tech writing and editorial jobs are now freelance. companies find it more cost effective...no med coverage, paid holidays, etc. so just inundate employers with resumes, they're looking for intelligent and qualified applicants. i decided to go freelance because i couldn't stand the 9-5 nonsense and i don't regret it for a nanosecond.

I am being layed off Thursday (first time for me---how much IS unemployment - I heard $300 a week?) -- so you better get to it. I'm sorry to here that. Unemployment compensation varies by state, Ohio is $250 a week. I know because I am enjoying a little involuntary summer vacation.
To: Sungirl
sun, you're at a disadvantage. i assume you're an intelligent and loyal american citizen. it seems as if the bureaucracies are out to sabotage us. but keep trying. you're the type of person that should be screening.
