Duke 3D on God Mode with the DC patch is perhaps the ultimate 'puter stress relief.

Doom II is cool with a little tweak I happened to get ahold of. A thing called "Barney Doom" turns some of the bad guys into annoying purple dinosaurs....hehehe.

another couple of good duke add ons is the Duke extreme which allows easy changes of weapon potency, amount of gore, etc. and Duke on Penthouse Island. Duke nukem with grainy shots of nekkid chicks in the background. Just cheesy enough to be entertaining.

I also have a Duke game for the Nintendo 64, but it loses something in the translation from PC.

Interesting.... You gonna get this? I didn't play the original Doom, but I played a lot fo Quake (2-3), and would be interested to know how it compares to Unreal Tournament.

Yes, I'm planning to get it but I'm not sure if my system is up to the task. I bet it will take about a 2Ghz system with a Geforce4 video card. Hopefully I can scrounge enough money for an upgrade by the time it releases. BTW - I think Unreal 2 is close to being released. It looks good but I have to admit, this Doom3 is the most impressive game I've ever seen.

From what I've heard, you may need to up it to at least a gigahertz CPU. Otherwise you sound fine :-)

I bought my first computer in '93. It was a *used* 486, 33Mhz and I paid $1250 for the thing. It came with the original Doom already loaded. I must've played that game for hours on end. I think I failed a few college courses thanks to Doom.

I still love it (even if the graphics are prehistoric). Looking forward to this one.

You wanna talk about prehistoric, my first puter was an XT I bought for about 1200 in 1987 or so. I had a CGA simulation program that let me play some CGA games (like World Tour Golf) in monochrome. Still got it.

The first puter I coaxed online was a 386-25MHz that I boosted up to 10 meg. We won't even talk about what I paid for its replacement, one of the first of the Pentium IIs. The 233 is being refurbished for a friend (which is what happened to the 386 as well) after I used what I could to build my 733 (at about half what a new one would have cost).

DOOM darn nearly destroyed my college career in fall '94: I'd stay up all night blasting demons, showed up for classes all bleery-eyed but but in an "adrenaline afterglow". Friends also started noticing that whenever I approached a hallway intersection I'd have to peer around the corner to make sure nothing was lurking there...
