Interesting news items from today's Page Six:

THE Pardongate-tainted head of the U.S. Holocaust Museum has finally lost his cushy gig. George W. Bush recently booted Rabbi Irving Greenberg as chairman of the museum's Memorial Council. Greenberg disgraced the publicly funded institution by lobbying Bill Clinton to pardon Marc Rich. The council blasted Greenberg last year, passing a resolution to disassociate itself from the plea he made to Bubba on museum stationery. Texas businessman Fred S. Zeidman is taking over.

And this:

We hear . . . THAT New School staffers are wondering why at least $1 million is being spent on a gut rehab of the West 11th Street townhouse where new president Bob Kerrey will live when deans are quitting because their budgets are so strapped . . .

Is Kerrey planning to run? John F. Heinz Kerry won't like it - too much name confusion.

Seth Waxman:

In 1977 Waxman received his law degree from Yale Law School [law school friend of the Clintoons?]; became visiting professor at Georgetown University when Bush took office; in addition to Justice Dept., formerly worked with D.C. firm of Miller, Cassidy, Larroca & Lewin; currently with Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering; no friend of the 2nd Amendment (look here)

I know this is so stupid and only my fellow FReepers and Guilders would understand, but I have always wanted to be a delegate! I just never knew how to go about it. They always look like they are having such a blast at the national convention. I live in IL and with politics being what it is in IL (not much different from the Capone days) I am sure you have to jump through some hoops, but I am going to look into it.

Whoever said it would be a hoot is right! Imagine that thread: The GUILD LIVE AT The Republican National Convention!

Here's a little more from Roll Call:

McConnell's defense team is made up of legal heavyweights such as First Amendment lawyer Floyd Abrams, former U.S. Court of Appeals Judge and ex-Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr and prominent campaign finance attorney James Bopp. McCain-Feingold supporters are depending on former FEC Commissioner Trevor Potter, Washington lawyer Roger Witten, former U.S. Solicitor General Seth Waxman and others to defend the bill in court.

McCain Team /COMMON CAUSE AND OTHERS:
Seth Waxman, soliter general under President Clinton
Bert Neuborne, former legal director of the ACLU
Trever Potter
Roger Witten

Just remember the McCain team is lead by our own Ted Olsen. He will act as lead attorney, by statue of his position.

It's really a fantastic idea. The last time I went to a convention was in '88. I think that they have been talking about having the convention here in Houston, which if that is the case, I can show all of my fellow Guild members some Houston hospitality. =)

Check this site or call your state party. They will tell you how to be a delegate. The conventions aren't just what you see on the floor. There are parties from breakfast into the wee hours of the night. I have been to 5 National Conventions and every single one was just a blast. 2000 in Philly was incredible.

Fox News' Tony Snow is reporting the Queen Mum has passed on.

Getting involved in Republican politics is the first step in getting nominated as a delegate. And if you can't get in as a Delegate, you can go as a volunteer for your party to help with a litany of events.

I am sad to hear that the Queen Mum died, but at 101 she has seen and experienced a long life. I am not sure all of it was happy, but she herself did bring strength and joy to others.

Was just going to post about the Queen Mother. What a lady of pearls! May she rest in peace.

My father went as a delegate when I was a teen. We kids & mom went as volunteers. We had a lot more fun. He had to stay on the floor to vote. We could watch from balcony or go from place to place meeting all sorts of folks. I do think the volunteer route may be the best fun.

Can you imagine how much fun we could all have if we got a block of rooms in the hotel at the convention! It would be an all night slumber party in pearls. I will bring the Cheetohs and soft drinks.

Here's MORE!

Other members of McConnell's legal team will include
James Bopp, general counsel for the James Madison Center for Free Speech;
Bobby Burchfield, a lawyer whose firm represented challengers in a 1974 case involving campaign spending limits;
election lawyer Jan Baran;
and Kathleen Sullivan, dean of the Stanford University Law School.

I'm jiggy wid it! What a combo - politics, snack foods and pearls. It wouldn't get much better than that. Thanks for mentioning volunteer opportunities, IG. As I mentioned, being elected a delegate for my state is pretty difficult unless you're really well-known statewide, so I'll pursue every possible means of getting to the convention.

I think we could get a national group going. We certainly have a good start here. There was talk that the National Republican party was trying to "reach out to women". So who do we contact, and (HLL) who does the talkin'? The idea of pearls and deviled egg dished is a hoot no dues just good clean support. Certainly would get some attention!
