Matthew described the Tooth Fairy to me yesterday. He says he thinks it's this little bitty woman (demonstrated with his fingers...about 4 inches) and that she's scared to death of people and might run off if he wakes up when she's taking his tooth. Joshua concurred with this whole-heartedly and when he went to bed, he stuck his hands over his eyes so he wouldn't see the Tooth Fairy and accidently scare her off! I went in about 12:30am last night and took care of it.

Matthew puts his tooth in an envelope. I put the money in an envelope just like it and then I just reach under and switcharoo. Then I date the envelope with the tooth and hide it away. Matthew thinks the Tooth Fairy magically puts the money in and takes the tooth out of the same envelope! LOL

Our "fairy" was named Fairy Blue. I used to write long (by little kid standards) letters to her, asking questions about fairy land and her other travels, printing in the smallest hand I could. She would answer in even tinier writing on little bitty pieces of paper. I admit I kept up the writing LONG after I knew who the Tooth Fairy really was...and the Tooth Fairy knew that I knew. ;-)

I wish I still had some of those letters!

I was talking with my boys, Joshua(7 at the time) and Jacob(5), after Josh had lost a tooth. I asked him if he was going to put it under his pillow for the tooth fairy. Jacob pipes up and says, "DAAADD! You're the tooth fairy!"

So I fessed up. We still do the tooth under the pillow thing and they come directly to me now to lobby for an increase in their payment. ;^)

The Tooth Fairy visited our 12 1/2 yr. old last night and left him $10! TF figured it was compensation for the pain and suffering he went through. The going rate is usually $1, but that's for teeth that come out painlessly, on their own.

Then dentist gave him the cutest little wooden box shaped like a tooth with a lid that swivelled out of the way to put the teeth in. TF took the teeth and folded the bill up REALLY small to fit in the space (about the size of a stack of 5 nickels).

Needless to say, he was thrilled with the money! That puts him closer to being able to buy one of the Lego Spybotics so he can do some more programming with his Lego Mindstorms set.
