And the Pacific Crest Trail extends down into California.

Probably this trail serves much the same purpose as the Appalachian trail, which runs from Maine to north Georgia (no mountains down here in Florida).

It is very similar to the Appalachian Trail in many ways, but it is a tad more challenging terrain in some parts. There are parts of the Pacific Crest Trail that are over 10,000 feet in elevation.
